Pumpkin has unexpected medicinal properties
Do you know the typical pumpkins for Halloween? And star in the winter soups? Scientists have discovered that the belief in grandmother's medicines derived from pumpkin is actually quite justified...
It turns out that the skin of the pumpkin contains proteins that act as antibiotics.
In the October 14th issue of the "Chemistry of Food and Agriculture" journal, the researchers reported that the proteins prevent the growth of the Candida fungus Candida albicans, a fungus that causes female infections and diaper rash in babies.
Other tests he conducted show that the pumpkin proteins stopped the spread of several types of plant fungi.
It is now hoped that the pumpkin peel will provide some effective remedies against fungal infections.
