Sierra Nevada will continue to develop the Dream Chaser spacecraft despite losing the NASA tender

In addition to manned flights, the spacecraft will be able to launch satellites from the Sierra Nevada company for the Stratolaunch project, which is developing an aircraft that can raise spacecraft to a high altitude and launch them from there either to orbit around the Earth or to take a shortcut from point to point

Revealed at the Astronautical Conference taking place these days in Toronto, Canada: Sierra Nevada's plan to launch the Dream Chaser manned spacecraft by Paul Allen's Stratolaunch system. Although NASA did not choose this spacecraft as a vehicle to transfer crew to the space station, the project continues at full speed.

As you remember, on September 16 NASA announced that the companies Boeing and SpaceX will provide it with astronaut flight services to the International Space Station ("commercial crew"), in a program worth 6.8 billion dollars. The companies will deliver passenger spacecraft starting in 2017, thus returning the US to space after a long absence since the shutdown of the shuttles in 2011.

The company does not yet have a destination to fly the private astronauts to, but it is believed to target space hotels if and when they become available. In the meantime, it will allow high-speed transportation from point to point, and will also allow the launch of satellites.

As mentioned, Sierra Nevada is a member of Stratolaunch, a joint project between Orbital Sciences and Scaled Composites, to use the air launch architecture for a larger version of the Dream Chaser. The combination of a reusable Dream Chaser spacecraft and stratospheric flights will allow three people to be transported into low Earth orbit for scientific missions, light cargo transportation or point-to-point suborbital transportation.

During the conference, the launch of the 2015 space conference that will be held in Jerusalem was also held.

  1. Regardless, but the US should add parts to the International Space Station that will be used as a hotel. That way she will be able to finance the station's expenses.
