"Amona's" woman of the year for 6.3.13 is Prof. Shulamit Levenberg of the Technion, a world-renowned researcher and scientist in the field of tissue engineering. The letter will be awarded to Prof. Levenberg as part of the annual event of "Amona" to mark International Women's Day on XNUMX/XNUMX/XNUMX.

Shulamit Levenberg, born in Israel, 43 years old, a graduate of the Kfar Pines studio, is a mother of six and lives with her family in the religious observatory of Morushat in the Lower Galilee.

According to the chairman of "Amona", Liora Minka, "the decision to award the award to Prof. Shulamit Levenberg is the essence of true Israeli pride. It expresses the professional pride of the world of science and research - and the Technion at its head, is a source of pride for the religious-Zionist public in general and the religious-nationalist women's movement in particular, and it points out the glory and the beautiful face of the State of Israel."

Prof. Levenberg achieved international professional recognition with the completion and publication of a study (jointly with Prof. Robert Langer from MIT), during which the transplantation of muscle tissue with blood vessels from embryonic stem cells was crowned with success. A vascular system implanted in the engineered muscle tissue was absorbed and integrated well into the blood circulation, and this is considered a significant breakthrough and a very important achievement in the fields of modern medical research and development. About two years later, she was able to create in the laboratory, from embryonic stem cells, also human heart tissue networked with blood vessels.

According to the award committee, Prof. Levenberg's achievements lay a solid foundation for research breakthroughs in the field of transplanting replacement organs in the injured and those affected by degenerative diseases, and they led one of the most prestigious journals in the world in the fields of science and technology - "Scientific American" - to crown Prof. Levenberg as a "science leader" ” worldwide in the field of tissue engineering, and for inclusion in the elite list of the 50 most respected scientists in the world, who managed to make a mark in various fields of research.

  1. The results are very impressive!
I have always admired the people who are both endowed with beautiful values and personal achievements.
I wish this was the reality among other strata as well, and not only among a limited number of people.
Everyone deserves to succeed. The success of one does not detract from the success of someone else, if only it seems that everyone can and not just children of, or linked to, or people who belong to certain strata of society.

  2. Well done.

And it's a shame that smart women continue to be "religious" in their own way, instead of going against religion.

Many religious people wrote and write that a woman "has no mind".
