Science instead of telenovelas: Channel 8 will produce new episodes of the program "News of Science" with Tal Berman. This follows approval received from the Cable and Satellite Council by the unified cable company HOT to transfer a sum of one and a half million dollars from the original productions of the Viva channel for the production of new episodes of the program. The program should return to air in the coming months. In 2003, 80 episodes were broadcast from "Hadhot Hamada", which provides information on what is happening in Israel and the world in the fields of technology, nature and medicine. In December 2003, the United Cable Company "Hot" informed "Nega Communications", operator of Channel 8, of a cut of four million shekels in the channel's budget. As a result of the cuts, it was decided at "Nega Communications" that new seasons of "Science News" and "Food for Thought" will not be produced. Officials at Channel 8 claimed in the past that the cuts at the channel meant "the removal of two quality programs in order to finance the production of the new telenovela of Channel 3". The cable company stated that the return of "Science News" at the expense of Viva proves that HOT is interested in promoting quality original productions "even at the expense of telenovelas".
