On Thursday, September 19.9.19, 15, the European Night of Scientists and Scientists in Israel was held in 42,000 academic institutions, science museums and research centers throughout the country. About 20 Israeli men and women came to the hundreds of events held free of charge: from Kiryat Shmona in the north to Eilat in the south. This is about a XNUMX% increase in the number of participants compared to last year.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Ofir Akunis: "Thank you to the approximately 42,000 Israeli men and women who came this year to the higher education institutions and science museums all over the country to celebrate with us the European Night of Scientists and Scientists in Israel at the initiative of the Ministry of Science and Technology. The increase in the number of participants is a huge expression of confidence in the ministry's activities over the years. The policy of making science and technology accessible, which I announced when I took office, will continue even more strongly and will fortify Israel's future as an international power of science, technology and innovation."

The EU's ambassador to Israel Emmanuel Joffre said: "The European Night of Scientists is an annual event that presents the value of publicly funded research and seeks to encourage a new generation of researchers. The European Union supports this event worldwide under the Horizon 2020 program, the largest public funding program for research and innovation in the world. The importance of public funding is known in Israel, where the European Union has been a major partner in supporting the expansion of research and innovation for over 20 years. In addition to funding, we support the creation of connections between European and Israeli researchers, markets and ideas. This collaboration is a great legacy to share with future generations."

This year, the European Night of Scientists and Scientists in Israel was marked by "from idea to reality". The event was held this year in Kiryat Shmona in the north under the leadership of the Miguel Research and Development Center, at the University of Medicine in Safed, at the Al-Qasmi Academic College in Nazareth, at the Oranim College in Kiryat Tivon, at the Meditech in Haifa, at the University of Haifa, at the Open University in Ra'anana, at Bar-Ilan University, Tel Aviv University, the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot, the Museum Science in Jerusalem, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the Sami Shimon College of Engineering in Ashdod and Be'er Sheva and the Sea and Lake Research Center in Eilat. All events were free of charge and open to the general public who came in droves.

This year, for the first time, the name of the official event has been changed to the Night of Scientists and Female Scientists - this is part of the concept of the Ministry of Science and Technology to promote gender equality and encourage girls and women to study, research and join the science and technology community in Israel. And this will be the official name of the event from now on.
The European Night of Scientists and Scientists event in Israel is held every year with the aim of making science accessible to the general public, boys and girls, parents, grandparents and allowing everyone to be part of the science community in Israel. Seeing science and touching science - and everything at eye level.
