Prof. Daniel Hershkovitz, Minister of Science and TechnologyOn the occasion of National Science Day, which will be celebrated on March 14, 2013, the Ministry of Science and Technology will hold the project "Science for the People" in which more than 120 scientists from six universities in Israel will give popular lectures in various and surprising places outside the campus such as cafes, bars, restaurants, shopping centers, stores , museums, houses, student dormitories, parks and more.

"The goal of the project is to make science accessible to a wide audience in an experiential and direct way," explains Minister of Science and Technology Prof. Daniel Hershkowitz. "Many universities already run one-off projects of lectures in public places and we at the office decided to combine the projects for one day under one umbrella and encourage other universities to take part in order to respond to a large audience throughout the country. The experience from similar ventures has shown that there is a great demand for these lectures, which indicates that in the right context, science can be even more popular than reality shows."
Six universities participate in the project: Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv University, Bar Ilan University, the Weizmann Institute of Science and the Open University.

As part of the project, more than 120 popular science lectures will be held in a light atmosphere in public places outside the campus and will be spread over more than ten cities across the country. The lectures will be held in a variety of different fields of science - both exact sciences and social sciences and the humanities - on topics such as earthquakes, genetic engineering, brain research, social behavior of animals, robots in security missions, altruism, chickpeas in Israeli society and more. Among the more well-known lecturers who will participate and give lectures: Prof. Yitzhak Ben-Israel, Prof. Menachem Ben-Shashon, Prof. Idan Segev, Prof. Haim Sider, Prof. Yossi Leshem, Prof. Amots Agnon, Dr. Ido Bezelat, Prof. Ariel Feldstein and more.
The lectures will be held as part of the National Science Day, set by the Knesset of Israel for March 14, Albert Einstein's birthday.

The lectures will be held starting at 17:00 according to the details of each university. Free entry. The list of places and lectures on the website of the Ministry of Science and Technology:
