Yesterday (14/3) Kiryat Yam celebrated International Science Day. Most of the students of the city's education system participated in the event: about 1700 students from grades XNUMX-XNUMX from "Rodman" comprehensive high school, "Rabin" comprehensive high school and "Levinson" state-religious high school in the city.

The event was sponsored by World Ort in cooperation with "Medatek" (the National Science Museum of the Technion), the Rafael Company and the KKL-Junk organization. According to Roni Klinsky, the head of the "Ort World" delegation in Israel: "At the ceremony of declaring Kiryat Yam as Israel's Science Kiryat, which took place last November, we signed with the Ministry of Education the "Science Forward Charter", in which we committed to an unprecedented investment in the advancement of scientific-technological education in Israel It is not for nothing that we chose to celebrate International Science Day in Kiryat Yam. According to him, Kiryat Yam and "Ort World" share a common vision according to which every student in the city is given the opportunity to explore and fulfill their potential in the fields of science and technology. This vision gave rise to a close cooperation that led, among other things, to the declaration of Kiryat Yam as Israel's "Science Kiryat". We are proud to be partners in the important educational activity in the city."

Starting in January 2008, "Ort Al-Homalim" made a donation of about half a million dollars for the purpose of converting one of the buildings at the "Rodman" school into a center for the study of technological sciences for the use of all the city's residents, in cooperation with the Technion and the education authorities in the city. The "Rodman" school was also privileged to receive from "Ort the World" a sophisticated electronics laboratory, which includes advanced computers and educational equipment, and even established a resource center for teachers, which contains all the advanced electronic equipment, in order to help the teachers in imparting the material taught to the students.
As part of the International Science Day, all the middle school children went through sessions, under the guidance of 2 "Medatek" teams who arrived in the city with a "Science Mobile". The instructors gave training and activities related to spectroscopy, the structure of matter, sound, communication, pressure and energy. Most of the XNUMXth graders went to "Medatech" located in the Hadar-Haifa neighborhood. These students, who will soon be issued a driver's license, will be given special activities and lectures on road safety from the scientific aspect: driving on a wet road, braking distance, the effect of alcohol on the body, etc. In addition, the students toured the "Awareness on the Road" exhibition and even learned about the topic of green energy. The XNUMXth and XNUMXth graders participated in a lecture on space exploration and the field of astronomy, given by Dr. Dana Lin-Barnett, a space engineer in Raphael, and in a lecture on ecology (recycling of materials and reuse of garbage), given by Shiran Ziv, a KKK representative. To. The lectures were accompanied by sessions and video clips.
International Science Day is held every year on March 14, the birthday of Albert Einstein (March 14.3.1879, 1921), a Jewish physicist born in Germany. Einstein is considered the greatest theoretician and the father of classical mechanics. He won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930, and his name became synonymous with genius. His articles on the theory of relativity changed everything that was known until then and earned him a lot of publicity. During his lifetime, Einstein referred several times to the activities of the World Ort around the world. And none of his famous speeches took place at the annual meeting of the World Ort Organization, in 100 in Great Britain. A speech included in the special CD for the 1905th anniversary of "Albert Einstein", produced by the British National Museum. 2005 is a wonderful year for Einstein - in this year he publishes the theory of relativity, and four articles that win him world fame - and this is why XNUMX was declared "the year of Albert Einstein".

The "Rodman" school is one of 34 educational campuses that participate in the "Kadima Mada" project - the flagship project of the "Ort Global" representative office in Israel, operated in cooperation with the Ministry of Education. The three-year project, the total scope of which is about NIS 150 million, began in early 2007 with the aim of promoting scientific-technological education in Israel. The project was born out of the belief that with the help of scientific-technological education, students can be given essential tools that have far-reaching social consequences.
"Ort the World" is a non-profit Jewish organization for dedicated education and training, the largest of its kind in the world. Since its establishment in 1880, the organization has helped more than 3 million people, Jews and non-Jews, in about 100 countries around the world.

"Mystery is the most beautiful thing we can experience. This is the source of all true art and all science" (Albert Einstein).
