About 50 teams of high school students from around the country and abroad will participate in a "safe" building and breaking tournament that will be held at the Davidson Institute for Science Education, which brings together the educational activities of the Weizmann Institute of Science, on March 17-18. The Israeli teams that reach high achievements in the competition receive a score of one hundred in the physics laboratory exam.

The competing teams are required to design and build a "safe", which is locked using an original physical mechanism. During the competition, the teams will try to break into as many safes as possible - within a limited time. At the same time, the safes will be tested according to the number of times the competitors succeeded in deciphering and breaking the locking mechanism, as well as according to the evaluation of a team of judges from Weizmann Institute scientists.

The "Physics Tournament in the name of Shalhab Freyer" is taking place for the 14th year. This year teams from Italy, Canada, USA, Slovenia, Great Britain, Australia, Thailand and Israel will participate in the competition.

Think about it: a conference of thinking games and creative mathematics

Thinking games, riddles, puzzles and creative mathematics will be at the center of a conference open to the public, which will be held at the Davidson Institute for Science Education, which brings together the educational activities of the Weizmann Institute of Science. The conference is intended for those interested in the field, the curious, and anyone interested in taking part in the meeting - from the age of 17 and older. Participants are invited to bring to the conference puzzles, games, riddles, and anything they would like to share with all the participants.

Besides the free meeting, during which the participants are invited to experiment, play, share and exchange games, there will be short lectures in the field, as well as a demonstration of solving a Hungarian cube with closed eyes by Dror Womberg, vice world champion.

The conference will be held on Wednesday, March 18, between the hours of 18:00 and 22:30 in the Duck Hall of the Davidson Institute for Science Education, on the campus of the Weizmann Institute of Science. Entrance fee: 35 NIS for early registration.
