Tears of the mermaids

In the past I have already referred to the problems and damages caused by plastic, agricultural plastic sheeting and even more so plastic bags which at best find a place in landfills and at worst (but common) are scattered in the field

From the Ministry of Environment's (our) publications on "Clean Beach" it is written that: "From surveys conducted in the field and based on prior information, it appears that the main component of waste on the beach is plastic, which constitutes at least 80% of all waste."

On January 22, a public discussion will be held that will deal with reducing the use of plastic bags, in preparation for the discussion - additional facts.

The supporters of the use of plastic in its various forms and uses claim that "today there are types of plastic on the market that break down after exposure to the sun" right? It turns out not... the "environmentally friendly" plastic does not disintegrate but crumbles, the most significant difference since the meaning of disintegration and not disintegration is that plastic "shards" remain in nature for hundreds of years, (which do not chemically decompose).

A team of researchers from the University of Plymouth led by Dr. Richard Thompson examined the beam for plastic fibers after they disintegrated. The tears received the name "mermaids' tears". The size of the flakes is about 20 microns (less than the thickness of a human hair) "plastic flakes are smaller than grains of sand and they are everywhere". According to the researchers' estimate, there are 300,000 plastic parts in every square meter of sea and about 100,000 tears in every square meter of the seabed.

Above, in the map of the beaches and the areas where the "tears" were found, you can see that the tears were found on five continents as well as in the plankton that was tested. On the beaches, the "tears" were found mainly in drifted algae, the tears look like tiny fish eggs and as such are eaten by sea and shore dwellers: "filter" species such as shells and marine worms absorb the "tears", sandflies and grasshoppers collect and swallow the "tears" ”, plankton and phytoplankton absorb the particles. These are also eaten by larger creatures and thus the plastic enters the food web. Passing through the digestive systems of the creatures, the crumbs break down and combine with other factors and create toxins, toxins that continue through them in the food chain.
In addition to that, because of the tiny size of the "tears" they have a large surface area and are able to absorb chemicals (toxins) from the environment and serve as a carrier (vector) that transfers toxins from place to place: "water-repellent" materials (hydrophobic) polymers of all kinds, PCB . Flame retardants are attached to "tears" and thus their concentration increases, by penetrating the food chain they reach fish and higher creatures and these are eaten... also by people, and thus by using plastic and dispersing it in the environment, we poison our environment and ourselves.

The spokesmen of the plastics industry responded to the media by saying that: "Most of the conclusions are "speculative" and there is no evidence that the "tears" are a carrier (vector) for toxins in nature", and that "the plastics industry does its best to use non-toxic materials".

The researchers say that the "tears" already in the environment cannot be neutralized, but everything must be done to prevent the contamination from continuing.

  1. The matter of the weather is therefore to sharpen the point that short-term predictions are very complicated and a direct conclusion
Implications regarding global climate change are certainly no less complicated.

The world has known periods of heat and cold throughout history.
That there is global climate change in the present should not surprise us.

By the way, did you know that the ice caps on Mars are shrinking? Perhaps this is due to the air pollution of the two "cars" Spirit and Opportunity. Air pollution that produces a greenhouse effect, who knows maybe there will be a few more cars like this on Mars and it will be warm enough to inhabit life...

  2. First of all, to know about the damages of plastic "first hand", you are welcome to read my previous lists on the subject,
The current list is given in the name of the researchers whose names and places are given and you are welcome to verify this directly with them!
What is not in doubt does not need research, every scientific research is based on doubts and skepticism, you should know.
What does the weather matter here?

  3. And what about your case? Can you provide the supplier with real first-hand evidence (note - first-hand) that the plastic in question is indeed so problematic?

Real research is one that is not in doubt - exact science.
In most cases prophecies of wrath and doom are simply exaggerated.

The study of ecology and climate change is much more complicated than forecasting the weather my friend, there are many hidden parameters and unknown interrelationships.

A forecast to predict for a few days ahead - and this is only based on the behavior of the weather and an extrapolation for the near future.

Studies such as yours, if to give a forecast for the coming years based on information and dry data and infer from them about the future.

I would suggest starting with weather forecasting based on dry data. We'll see you succeed in this!

Giving prophecies of wrath for distant years is just like putting the whereabouts of the Bnei Sela in an envelope and opening it only after
    caught

  4. to Judah,
Different things can be sucked from the finger, not research!
    Academic publication is not negative!
One of the non-scientific/research methods is "intervention" or in the correct language: a bet!
Persuasion must be based on research and evidence in your case...?

  5. I bet the "research" on plastic bags sucks
And his role is one - to obtain academic publication.

Moreover, I am convinced that the plastic disappears and decomposes very quickly and is completely harmless.
