The CEO of the 'Green Trend' association, Mor Gilboa, will participate next week in the Rio+20 UN conference on sustainable development. Gilboa is the representative of the Israeli delegation which also includes the umbrella organization of environmental organizations in Israel - 'Life and Environment'. As the CEO of the voluntary, environmental and activist organization, which has the widest deployment in Israel, Gilboa sees participation in the conference as an opportunity to learn from developing countries, influence sustainable development in Israel and protest against irresponsible government policies, which contribute to environmental damage in various aspects.

Gilboa: "The massive presence at this conference only emphasizes the important place that the world sees in sustainable development as a solution to the environmental crisis.
As someone who manages the Green Trend organization, which for over 15 years has been fighting for sustainable development and against irresponsible government policies that contribute to the great damage to natural resources, at a rate much greater than its capacity for regeneration, I find the conference significant today, more than ever.

On the one hand, it would be correct to say that public awareness of the quality of the environment has increased and it is also possible to identify an improvement in the promotion of legislation.
However, unfortunately, the increase in public awareness is accompanied by enormous environmental threats that have devastating consequences for the environment and society. Unfortunately, the Israeli government is determined to continue to promote policies that have harmful consequences for the environment and society while carrying out dangerous development that does not consider the environment, society and future generations.

Some of the major environmental dangers we are facing these days: the reform in construction planning, the oil shale project in the Adolim region, the government's initiative to establish ten rural, detached and exclusive settlements in the Negev, failure to promote adequate public transportation in the three major metropolises: Gush Dan, Haifa and Jerusalem, failure to enforce Clean Air Law and the opposition to the amendment of the Beaches Law that will ensure maximum protection of the country's beaches against real estate initiatives."

It should be noted that the conference is being convened 20 years after the historic Rio Conference which was convened in 1992, in which the countries of the world began to understand that sustainable development is the correct and appropriate response to the climate crisis, global warming and the harmful effects of the industrial revolution on the environment, health and quality of life of all of us here.
This is planned to be the largest UN conference ever, in which approximately 50,000 participants and over 120 heads of state from all over the world are expected to participate.

One response

  1. What a Zionist government. A real wall and tower model 2000. What is this nonsense? that they maintain existing settlements if at all. There are already dozens of settlements in the Negev of 50-200 people. What's the point of making 10 more of these? 10 settlements, 500 people... a pathetic government. Why just destroy the environment and interrupt it because some impotent people only think about what they will say they did. What "achievements" did they bring? Without a doubt, the best are not in politics, quite the opposite. But this is the method that filters and discourages the better ones.
Quite an achievement for hypocritical "Zionism", a blow to the environment and nature. But hey, say about Sylvan and the rest that they are little goriyons, congratulate them.
