An overdose that doesn't kill you

This Friday, Dizengoff Square, 10:23 there will be an event at 10:23 where the participants will take an overdose of homeopathic medicines

10:23 is a global protest event that aims to increase awareness of the harms and uselessness of homeopathy - a "healing method" that lacks a scientific basis and there is no evidence of its effectiveness. Thousands of participants in dozens of countries in the world will take an "overdose" of a homeopathic preparation, to illustrate the fact that it has no effect.

The Israeli event will take place on Friday 4.2/10 at 23:XNUMX in Tel Aviv (details can be found on the Israeli event website).

Since 2008, the British ten23 group has been holding these protest events in many cities in the UK against the Boots pharmacy chain (the equivalent of the Israeli Superpharma chain). This year the event is global and directed against the health systems in countries all over the world. The first protest of this kind in Israel is organized by the skeptical community "Spinoza".

Biostatistician Dr. Yossi Levy, one of the organizers of the event, calls on the health funds to stop the legitimacy they give to homeopathic "treatments", and to exclude these treatments from the complementary medicine services they offer to the insured. At the same time, Dr. Levy calls on the general public to examine the potential benefit and harm inherent in homeopathic treatment before deciding to resort to such treatment. Dr. Levy points out that homeopathic treatments can cause great harm to patients, despite the common opinion.

Assaf Avraham, one of the leaders of the skeptical community "Shapinoza", emphasizes: "It is impossible for an entire public to be fooled by vague false promises, while campaigning against conventional medicine and its achievements, and canceling the achievements of scientific thinking in the past thousands of years." Avraham adds: "It seems that many entities including pharmacy chains, health funds and private entities have jumped on this financial bandwagon and are selling illusions to the public while taking advantage of their innocence and lack of understanding and taking advantage of the image they have acquired among the public as a so-called professional medical body."

About the skeptical movement

The skepticism movement is a global movement that believes in man's ability to understand the world around him through logic and scientific theories without relying on false beliefs and blind judgment. In Israel there is a large and active skeptical community, its members are private individuals who finance the activity from their own pockets, and do not receive funding from any body.

  1. I really wanted to participate in the event, but as some of you probably know, I faced a scourge not written in the Bible - Russian hackers and the restoration of the site after them.

  2. Fortunately, I took part in this event, the medicines were prepared by the participants and not bought.
This has the advantage of not spending money just on water (and a lot of money!).
Disadvantage, that homeopaths can say that it was not prepared properly, etc.

    post Scriptum
The dilution was very dangerous of caffeine at a dilution of 60^10, I am alive, not tired, and not too alert.

  3. It is clear to you that taking an "excess" dose of any drug does not prove anything about its properties other than the fact that it is a non-dangerous substance for humans.

The 1023 event looks nice as an idea, but I see no benefit in it other than supporting the homeopathic medicine market (by buying a large quantity)

  4. By the way I forgot, 1023 appearing in the logo is Avogadro's number. That is, there are more people who understand that homeopathy is eye catching and cheating.

  5. Finally someone noticed that homeopathy is a scam.
The time has come for legislation to be implemented in this matter.
Water has no memory. Water is randomly arranged molecules that move randomly according to temperature.
Memory is an organizational state of a system that expresses a result in an orderly manner. If this were true, then the history of the Earth and beyond could be obtained from the water.
Avogadro's number expresses exactly the true state of water after dilution.
    Below is the definition:
In chemistry and physics, Avogadro's number is the number of particles (atoms, molecules) present in a mole (unit for measuring the amount of a substance) of a given substance. Avogadro's number is denoted by \ N_{A}, and according to the most accurate measurements, its value is N_A = (6.022 \, 141 \, 79\pm 0.000 \, 000 \, 30)\,\times\,10^{23} \, particles per mol.

The number is named after Amedeo Avogadro, an Italian chemist from the 19th century.

Scientists use this number to calculate the number of particles in an amount of material - the product of the constant and the number of moles in the sample.
The formal definition of Avogadro's number is the number of carbon-12 atoms in 12 grams of this substance. Carbon-12 was chosen for this purpose because it is relatively easy to accurately measure its atomic weight. More generally, Avogadro's number is the number of particles present in an amount of substance whose weight in grams is equal to the atomic weight or molecular weight of this substance.
That is. After mixing and dividing the solution a small number of times, there is almost no statistical chance that there will be even one molecule of the mixed substance in the water after the mixing is finished.
    Cheating screams to heaven!!!!!

  6. There is a meaning beyond that, 6.02X10^23 is known in chemistry as Avogadro's number.
The meaning of diluting a solution, as happens in homeopathy beyond Avogadro (they sometimes dilute up to the 30th power and even more than 10), is that it is actually distilled water and that's all.

  7. Can someone explain to me what the strange time 10:23 means and how it has to do with homeopathy?

I would expect there to be some explanation about the matter in the body of the article, the author of the article assumes for some reason that everyone understands what it is about.
