NASA Looking for you! NASA wants to do some good experiments in space and it needs companies to do it for it. The US space agency said this week that it is looking for research ideas from private parties interested in conducting research aboard the International Space Station.
NASA has announced that it is interested in expanding its International Space Station. NASA is calling on private entities - including private companies and non-profit organizations, as well as academic institutions: NASA will provide them with access to a laboratory on the space station to conduct basic and applied research, technology development and industrial processing. The International Space Station is currently staffed by an international team from Canada, Europe, Japan, Russia and the USA. The US has reported that the space station is almost complete and will be an extension of space research.
Almost 150 experiments are being performed on the station and more than 400 experiments have been performed since the research began nine years ago. These experiments are already leading to progress in the war against food poisoning, new methods of drug delivery to cancer cells and the development of more efficient engines and materials for use on Earth and in space.
In a speech to NASA this month, President Obama expressed a desire to extend support for the space station at least five years beyond 2015.
