The space shuttle Endeavor and its crew of six astronauts took off into space a few minutes ago (15:56 Israel time), ready for a 16-day mission to the International Space Station.

This is the last mission of the shuttle before it goes to one of the aviation museums in the USA. The ascent to the runway lasted eight and a half minutes.
Following a smooth countdown, and cooperation from the weather, the takeoff was eventually carried out at the planned time. However, the shuttle's launch story is full of delays due to faults that were discovered during the preparations for the previous launch attempt about two months ago.
