After many months of work, the Knesset today unveiled the new committee portals that will help bring about maximum exposure of the parliamentary work carried out in the Knesset committees and the accessibility of the parliamentary products for both Knesset members, Knesset employees and the browsing public. This step is an important layer in the transparency and accessibility of the information that the Knesset allows for surfers.

For example, those interested in what is happening in the Science and Technology Committee will be able to enter the committee's new portal and find material from every meeting held in a synchronized manner: protocol, background material, press release, photos and recorded broadcast. Any search for a certain topic - will display all the results of that session in that search. Already at the entrance to the committee's home page, all the material available on the committee is presented to the surfer, which will greatly facilitate the search for the committee's materials, which was cumbersome in the old portals.

If in the past it was necessary to search for archival materials about meetings in different places in the previous portals, from today all the information about a committee meeting is synchronized so that everything related to that meeting: minutes, background material, press release, photos and recorded broadcast and any search for a certain topic - will display all the products of The same session in the same search. Already upon entering the committee's home page, all existing material on the committee will be presented to the surfer, which will greatly facilitate the search for the committee's materials, which was cumbersome in the old portals.

The new design presents the user in the center of the page with the most recent meetings held by the committee in a news format, as well as a live broadcast of the committee if a meeting is held. The portals also display all the important information about the committee, including the names of all the members of the committee, the date of the upcoming meetings as well as its fields of activity. "From the committee's desk" is a new, less formal area, where the director of the committee, in collaboration with the committee's staff, has the opportunity to tell the public about the committee's work through free text, images, links, etc. The page elements are flexible, so that each committee can choose a format that suits them as the committee's home page.

The work towards the launch of the new portals included a comparative survey among websites of parliaments in the world while studying the accessibility of the information, the scope of the information and the visibility of the portals. At the same time, consultations were held with all directors and committee directors in the Knesset in order to learn about their needs and the most correct way to present the large amount of parliamentary material to the public.

Knesset Speaker Yuli Yoel Edelstein: "The new committee portals are an impressive project that is another significant step in the Knesset's transparency to the public, extraordinary transparency in scope that is so important to us to constantly expand it. I am full of appreciation for the professional team engaged in the work and mention that only recently we also launched the query database in the Knesset and it is open to the public."

Knesset Director General Ronan Plot: "The new portals - today end a period of "soft launch", officially go live and are available to the public. In the name of the principle of transparency, we will expand with additional projects in the near future."

Knesset Secretary Jordana Meler-Horwitz: "Thanks to the new committee portals, I believe that the work of the committees, which is the heart of parliamentary activity, will be given more public expression. We now have international level portals, with an enlightening design and today we have an excellent reason to be proud".

  1. And as usual - half the job.
The video player - still the same garbage from Microsoft with the MMS protocol and a proprietary add-on that does not exist for any system other than Windows, so you can't see anything.
