The cessation of vaccinations in Japan - and why one should be careful of drawing hasty conclusions

Four days ago, four babies in Japan, six months to two years old, received vaccinations against meningitis and against the pneumococcus bacteria that causes inflammation of various kinds, from meningitis to pneumonia. All four died shortly thereafter, and the cause of death has not yet been definitively determined. In Japan, the authorities have decided to temporarily stop the use of both types of children's vaccines, until the conclusions of a team of experts are published that will examine the issue and announce its decision, apparently today.

And these vaccines are also used in Israel.

Scary? scary? Definitely yes. A potential young pain, any news like this makes me jump out of my chair and straight to Rabbi Google. But as in most cases of mass hysteria, if we examine the whole matter in a balanced and logical manner, we will realize that there is not much cause for concern here, and that the main uproar comes mainly from the blessed tendency to protect our children from any threatening factor, even when the suspicion is the faintest of the faint.

Let's start by asking - is it possible that there was a defect in the vaccines? Did some toxic substance get into the solutions? Well, it's worth remembering that the two vaccines in question are industrially and mass produced. Millions of children receive the exact same vaccines every year in the United States, Japan and Israel. So far, there have been no additional reports of health problems in the vaccine recipients. Even the vaccine companies do not believe that this is a problem in the production line. It is therefore reasonable to assume that the vaccines are safe to use.

Which leaves the question: So what actually happened here?

And the answer, as usual, is statistical.

The cause of death of the babies is still not clear to us, but the suspicions center on a cause not related to vaccines. One of the most common causes of infant mortality is crib death syndrome, the cause of which is also not entirely clear - but it is known that it is not related to vaccines. Out of every ten thousand babies, between three and eight die from the syndrome. A quick calculation shows that when it comes to a population of one million children receiving the vaccine, there is a good chance that at least 300 babies will die in a given year, and in bad years the number can rise to close to a thousand. And with a little (a lot) of bad luck, it's quite possible that several of the babies will die at the same time. And that's without even mentioning the fact (according to Dr. Paul Offit, a vaccine expert) that two of the babies suffered from serious health problems even before the vaccine was administered.

But what is the chance that four babies will die shortly after receiving the vaccines? The chance is not as small as it seems to an observer from the side who does not understand statistics on Borya. The case can be compared to the 'birthday paradox' (with a thousand and one thousand differences): what is the chance that a sixty-year-old woman will have children, two of whom will have exactly the same date of birth? Our instinctive answer from the waist is that the chance is low - but a mathematical analysis of the problem proves that the chance Very much, reaching over 99 percent. The reason for this result is complicated to explain for the present paper (although I'm sure my learned talkbackist colleagues will be happy to explain it), but it is proven in reality, and also means that the chance of four children dying completely by chance at the exact same time after receiving a vaccine is much greater than we would expect.

It is easy to leave the subject here, but we must continue to ask: are vaccines completely safe? The answer to that is negative. Similar to any drug and substance injected into the body, vaccines can also cause side effects or infections in a very small proportion of children. Between 1988 and 2008, the American government provided compensation to almost a thousand parents whose children were harmed by vaccines. Please note: a thousand cases of injury, out of tens of millions of children vaccinated over twenty years.

I do not intend to underestimate the injury of even one child from a vaccine. Any injury to a child is a terrible thing, but vaccines protect us from serious and common diseases, which otherwise could have killed children en masse, leaving many of them paralyzed (polio), deaf, blind and brain-damaged (meningitis). The minimal risk of taking the vaccine is balanced by the huge benefit for the entire population.

The Japanese government's decision to stop giving vaccinations until the circumstances of the death are clarified is understandable and justified, but in the current era of information overload, it is important to know which data to refer to, and what degree of importance to attribute to them. It is important not to draw wrong conclusions from the current data, because a parent who decides to avoid vaccinating his children exposes them to lung infections, meningitis and a variety of infectious diseases that may leave their mark on the child's body for the rest of his life.

So take a day, take two days until the Japanese government's team of experts investigates the case, then go and vaccinate your children. Because those who do not store - harm the child and his environment.

  1. Of course, and the same answer is repeated, there is no scientific proof that death from a vaccine is a circumstantial connection, not a causal connection
The factual connection is always ignored, it does not exist
For one, two, three, say a circumstantial relation
that it reaches hundreds and thousands in the world, it is necessary to take the equal side that has the cases that the disaster comes near the vaccine
Science is doing its job cheating instead of finding what it is its job to do, it is trying to determine the facts and by force only to sell as many vaccines as possible

  2. skeptic:
Is the "F" in your nickname necessary and all you're trying to do is provide ammunition to an idiot?
What you "noticed" is not true and your whole purpose is to attack people whose opinion you disagree with.

  3. skeptic! You spoke well.

The extinction of the dinosaurs is also attributed to the decrease in the relative level of oxygen in the air, which is in good agreement with the findings you brought. This still does not contradict the direct contribution of the meteor to the extinction or the acceleration of the process.

What raised our anger at Nano is not the words he used to condemn the vaccines, but the casting of doubt on the honesty of the author of the article in a way that sounds like a very bad joke.

  4. I noticed that most of the regular commenters who use the labels "idiot" "fool" and the like are narrow-minded people who attack anyone who doesn't think like them.

By the way, for those who were unaware of the information, almost certain proofs were discovered that several types of dinosaurs lived about 700 thousand years after the fall of the great meteor near Mexico about 65.5 million years ago (the numbers here are not XNUMX% verified, but more or less correct). This undermines the claim (dubious in my opinion) that the same meteor is the cause of the extinction of the dinosaurs. Why am I saying this? Because anyone who labels as an idiot anyone whose opinion differs from his own, the opinion (of the labeler) is as important as the skin of garlic. What I said at the time in the same matter (about the dinosaurs) was labeled by narrow-minded people commenting on the forum as an "idiot" or something of the same style (I don't remember the terminology since then).

Regarding the matter of vaccinations in Japan. We don't know enough details about the vaccines there to say anything intelligent about that.
Neither in this direction nor in the opposite direction. Therefore, a chatty Cezana-type display is a waste of the readers' time.

Regarding the reliability of research regarding drugs and diseases, one of the most famous is that research seems to be funded mainly by medical industries, therefore they have an interest in funding only research that flatters them. It is worthwhile to internalize the case of medical studies about the harms of tobacco that eliminated the dangers of tobacco, the elimination was done for decades. It turned out that the tobacco companies flooded the academy with studies that belittled the harms of tobacco, the studies were "respectable" but (it turns out) were biased in favor of the tobacco companies. I don't think medical industries today are more moral than the tobacco companies back then, it's all about money.

The fact that today we are inundated with dozens of vaccines for babies (a situation that started about 50 years ago) while there were few vaccines 50 years ago - raises difficult questions. After all - except for a few diseases, such as polio, there were no proven damages due to childhood diseases that were reduced due to those vaccines (there is no proof of reduction). It makes much more sense for vaccines to be limited only to diseases whose harms have been clearly proven.

The plague of vaccinations for children began about 50 years ago, perhaps following the development of the polio vaccine (infantile paralysis), the fact that this vaccine was useful subsequently gave birth to a wave of vaccines for children whose benefit is unclear.

Start here and if you're serious, keep checking and not just videos with dramatic and scary music from YouTube
To Boris Nano: If you are not an idiot, then I apologize and if you really are not an idiot, maybe you will understand that a conflict of interest was precisely for the person who first published the connection between measles and smallpox and autism. Read and learn

You are not updated. The same doctor who did the research related to measles vaccines is now accused of twisting and distorting the research if you need a link let me know. I have two small children (the youngest is 2 years old) and at the time I researched and plowed the subject in depth. I treat acupuncture and shiatsu. And I have a lot of "spiritual" friends who are involved a lot in conspiracy theories, and I too was happy to celebrate with them, but as soon as it touched my children, I checked, researched and really questioned all sides. In the end, I vaccinated them and if I had to, I would do it again. With the blessing and tol kora

  7. Year:
Why did you write what you wrote?
Has anyone here ever considered what anyone else thinks?
Since telepathy has not yet been developed to such a level of perfection - all the comments here only referred to what people wrote.
I assume that your words stem from the reference to the words of Nano Boris.
And what are the words of Nano Boris?
Among other things, they include the following sentence:
” The question asked is who paid/motivates you to publish such an article? Hmm…”

    This is a serious charge.
Much more serious than the accusation of idiocy.
    Not this one either:
This is a false accusation while the accusation of idiocy is true!

  8. Not light and dark
    And not lights and dimples
    Because if lights and dimming!

My God, I was labeled as an idiot and a fool, and as a fool as well
And all this because I read articles in "Hidan"
    Reads and even stumbles...

Since freedom of speech is a candle to our feet, I am confident that this response of mine, as stupid as it may be, will be accepted in the system and added to the pool of memory-devouring rants. The hard disk tolerates everything. Where is the scientific inquisition when you really need it?

  9. I agree with Yair completely! The comments here are simply an inquisition under the auspices of science.

Just shows that no matter how educated and enlightened a person is, the defense of personal or collective subjective truth is done in the same way - an attack.

I am against religion, but today the scientific institutions have become a kind of lights and blinds in the eyes of many educated people, who will accept any new research blindly. The new church, the new faith.

  10. The scientists behave just like the church. There are things that must be said and there are things that must not even be thought. (For example, it is forbidden to think that there is a connection between vaccines and something bad, if you think so then you are labeled as an idiot, etc., I will not continue the list because I will also be labeled as an idiot here in a moment).

  11. Why is this all about Nano? It's really disrespectful to call him an idiot when all in all he's just a jerk...
On the other hand, he reads articles in "Hidan"...

  12. Yair - Please refer to the dictionary before you write nonsense. Anyone who opposes the majority opinion may be a non-conformist, but that has nothing to do with skepticism. Specifically, you are invited to check what scientific skepticism is, to understand that you cannot be a good scientist without being a skeptic, but you also cannot be a good scientist with blind faith in non-conformist conspiracy theories (this is not skepticism).

I'll join in and say, Nano, you're an idiot. And I say this hopefully, because if you are not an idiot then there is a fear that you are a homeopathic charlatan or a Scientologist and/or from some anti-vaccine organization that I will not name.

And this is dedicated to Roy, Machel and anyone who sees himself as a thinking and skeptical person:

  13. to us Thus the triple vaccine (measles, pertussis) causes autism.
It also happened that the scientist who proved it received considerable sums from the right party.
Conclusion The right scientist, for the right amount, will be able to renovate for you a suitable experiment that will prove any lie.
Meanwhile, it was found that only the scientist who discovered that vaccines are harmful received a bribe. All others who support vaccines have been proven not to have received bribes.

  14. The pretension of the authors to explain the series of reported cases is ridiculous, in the absence of data.
A note regarding the phrase "skeptics" that appears in the disclaimer at the top of the list:
A skeptic is someone who opposes the opinion of the majority. The authors accept the opinion of the majority, and the skepticism from them onwards, they are actually "conformists", as is also proven by the interpretation that avoids casting any doubt on the possibility that there is a problem with the vaccines.
In this case the real skeptic is Nano, which we have already made necessary comments.

  15. Indeed, every additional word is unnecessary, so I will also write the same words:
    Nano, you are an idiot.

  16. Nano, you are super nano. The article is trending, but not on purpose. Regarding the class statistics: the writer is not wrong from the point of view of statistics regarding 60 students in one yearbook and the additional chance of a pair of twins...

  17. Roi Shalom

Your conclusion that one should not rush to draw conclusions is acceptable to me.
Precisely because of this, the timing of the article is too early, since there are no statistical circumstances to rule out a problem with the vaccine, a problem with the particular supply chain in Japan, the spread of a new bacterium or virus among the warehouse staff, or a random accumulation of babies sensitive to one of the components of the medicine.
There is no doubt that a comprehensive investigation will be conducted, and external or other causes of the deaths may be found.
Any intimidation - and any appeasement - are unnecessary and harmful at this stage.

  18. Trending article.
After all, it is clear that vaccines are more harmful than helpful and their whole purpose is to bring money to the governments and corporations that stand behind them.

The question asked is who paid/motivates you to publish such an article? hmm…
