It turns out that the majority of the Israeli public is interested in the field of health in the media. A new survey, conducted at the initiative of Nava Einbar's public relations office, which specializes in health, through the Market Watch research institute (Market Watch), under the management of Avinaam Brog, stated that 55.2% of the Israeli public is interested in health in the media compared to 30.8%, who are interested in sports.

The survey examined the extent of the public's interest in articles and news dealing with health, compared to those dealing with sports. The survey was conducted recently, with the participation of approximately 500 male and female interviewees in a telephone survey, who were asked "Which of the two topics are you more interested in when you read newspapers, surf the Internet, watch TV or listen to the radio?".

A minority of about 9.9% of the participants in the survey indicated that they were not interested in any of them, 2.6% indicated that they were equally interested in sports and health and 1.5% of the participants refused to answer. The participants' answers were distributed as described in the following table.

As expected, in the field of sports, a significant difference is evident between the women and men who participated in the survey. 75.2% of the women stated that they are more interested in health than in sports and slightly more than half, i.e. 52.3% of the men, stated that they are more interested in sports. Despite these differences between women and men, it turns out that about a third of men are interested in health and only 10% are not interested in any of the issues, a similar rate to women who are interested in sports 10.7%. The differences between women and men in the survey were distributed as described in the following table.

Avinaam Brog, president of the Market Watch research institute, noted that: "Part of the perception of health is probably related to strength and power and a feeling of physical and mental strength, the product of many years of public relations for the Israeli macho. Therefore, for men, there is a preference for the field of sports over the field of health, which involves awareness of diseases. It is possible that some of them even think in terms of if we don't read newspapers we will be healthy or those who read are worried, therefore they prefer to testify that they are more interested in media relevant to sports. Also, unlike in Western countries, the Israeli man does not often engage in sports and his main sports arena is the armchair"

Nava Einbar, a communications consultant who initiated the survey, emphasized that: "The reality that obligates women to function in several arenas at the same time between Karira and the family, apparently causes them to prefer information more relevant to their role in the family unit. The fact that the women feel more responsible for the health of the children and the family makes them more aware of health information which they even apply more. It will be fascinating and useful to re-examine this question and other questions, which will arise in a few months, while segmenting and differentiating the various media."

When further differences were examined between the respondents in the survey, it turned out that there is a clear and distinct preference for the field of sports over the field of health, among the participants between the ages of 18 and 24, with 48.9% of them stating that they prefer sports, while in the other ages the distribution ranged over 19.6% and up to 33.2%. As for the age difference between those interested in health, the place of the participants between the ages of 25 and 34 stood out, 66.4% of whom said that health interests them, and even among those aged 45 to 54, of whom 58.4% said that they are more interested in health.

The survey was conducted, as mentioned, on the initiative of Nava Einbar's public relations office, which specializes in strategic consulting, in the field of health, medicine, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and life sciences and deals with the management of information campaigns and media exposure for inclusion in the basket of new drugs and technologies and media support for start-up companies in the medical field, through The Market Watch research institute, under the management of Avinaam Brog, with the participation of about 500 interviewees in a telephone survey.

  1. It's just a shame that a considerable percentage of the health news in Israel concerns pseudo-science.
