Yesterday, an award was given to two Israeli companies: "Tal Welding Technologies" and "Maresco Technologies", which provided equipment and welding work for the "Atlas" project, which is the main part of the organization's particle accelerator, the "LHC" (Large Hardon Collider, which is the largest accelerator of its kind in the world. The award was given for the construction of a very large and precise part called Big Wheels, which also included the execution of aluminum welding of special quality and precision.

The ceremony was held in the Chief Scientist's Office where the Chief Scientist was present - Dr. Eli Ofer; CERN Secretary, Mr. Max Metzger; Experimental speaker within the "Atlas" project, Peter Jenni; The technical coordinator of the project, Prof. Giora Mickenberg from the Weizmann Institute; the person in charge of the Israeli group at CERN who works in the organization most of his time, Prof. Eliezer Rabinovitch from the Hebrew University; Dr. Shaul Freireich, Deputy Chief Scientist, as well as the CEOs of the winning companies - Zeev Maresse and Menachem Katz.

The CERN organization, whose seat is in Geneva, is the largest scientific organization in the world in the field of physics, where this year the new particle accelerator will be inaugurated. The perimeter of the accelerator is about 27 kilometers, and it is located entirely underground in the territories of the countries of Switzerland and France. About 25 Israeli scientists and 15 PhD students are involved in this program.

The chief scientist, Dr. Eli Ofer points out that the State of Israel enjoys the official status of an "observer country" at CERN, and its position has been anchored in the agreement since 1992. The agreement also allows Israeli companies to compete in tenders for the supply of sophisticated equipment to the organization. In accordance with this agreement, the handling of everything related to these tenders is entrusted to the Office of the Chief Scientist in the Ministry of the TMT.

In 2006, the Israeli company "Fibernet" won this prestigious award, and now the two aforementioned companies join it. Receiving the award indicates the high capacity of the companies and is a source of pride for them.

  1. Tal:
First of all, CERN is an old organization that has already provided many discoveries. See for example the chapter on Scientific achievements in the following link:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CERN
If you talked about building expectations, maybe you meant the LHC, but it is a bit difficult to expect achievements from a particle accelerator whose construction has not yet been completed.

  2. CERN has been talked about for years and expectations are being built, so far there is not even a single discovery from there

  3. Are the special devices mentioned in the article
They are a unique-innovative technological development or they are well-known devices in the market and industry.
In other words, I want to ask: is there a noteworthy technological achievement here or a commercial interest in winning the tender. After all, it is clear that if it is about a business winning a tender, then the professionals who actually perform the work, can also be companies from abroad, as subcontractors. This is not clear from the article.
