The Aerospace Industry (IAI) will unveil at next week's Paris Air Show a ground-breaking system for gathering communications intelligence with three-dimensional high-frequency (HF) localization. The new intelligence collection system called DF ELK-7065 3D HF was designed, manufactured and tested at Alta Systems, a division and subsidiary of the IAA. Can be installed on aerial, marine and terrestrial platforms.

The system, using a unique technology, classifies signal characteristics such as frequency, power, modulation, geographic location and polarization and thus provides rapid labeling and identification of the received signals to create a reliable battle picture of "Electronic Order of Forces" (EOB) in real time.

HF communication plays an increasingly significant role in military, civilian and paramilitary applications due to the need to use beyond line-of-sight communication and this is achieved even without the help of expensive satellite communication. Whether through the propagation of sky waves or the utilization of ground waves, HF communication appears to be a proven and reliable solution (especially with the entry into the market of advanced technologies such as Automatic Link Establishment.

The increase in the use of HF communication has created a growing interest in the field of communication intelligence collection known as COMINT. The intelligence systems that exist today in TG are cumbersome and have limited mobility and are therefore impractical and expensive in the various applications.

The unique capabilities of Alta that are reflected in the new system require relatively small and compact antennas, which allows for their efficient installation on diverse mobile platforms.

The new airborne antenna configuration, whose dimensions are 30 cm by 50 cm, has already completed the essential development and testing stages and was recently installed on an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) manufactured by the Heron type. The results of the tests exceeded expectations and they pave the way for the production of the first unit that can be installed on any UAV or manned platform. The same idea was applied to antennas that are uniquely adapted to vessels and land vehicles, which allows for the reduction of the radar cross section of the antenna.

Elbit Systems LA and Sigint - Elishra will unveil at the Paris Air Show an electronic warfare system (LA) that is also adapted to unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The SPS-65V5 system, which is used for self-defense and improves the survivability of the UAV, relies on Elishra's rich experience in developing similar systems that are installed on a variety of operational platforms (fighter planes, helicopters and transport planes) of customers in the Air Force and around the world

Edgar Maimon, CEO of Elisra, said that along with the growth recorded in the world in the use of unmanned aircraft, the demand to develop survivability capabilities for these platforms is also increasing, which will protect both the execution of the mission and the platforms themselves for the many unique and expensive systems they carry. Maimon added that the new systems will also contribute to the intelligence gathering ability of the drone, thanks to the various sensors that make up the defense system. He noted that the system, as well as other Elishra systems designed for UAVs, complement other activities carried out by Elbit Systems in this field and enable the company to offer its customers a generic suite of solutions that provide a response in the survival and intelligence layer.

The self-defense system for drones is based on the SPS65-V5 system, which is built in a modular way that allows adding/removing capabilities according to the operational requirements of the user and the constraints of the mission. The system is adapted to the UAV platforms in terms of Size Weight and Power (SWaP) and allows installation on a variety of platforms ranging from tactical size to HALE.
