Hubble celebrates 21 with the rose of the galaxies

The astronomers at the Space Telescope Science Center in Baltimore published the image of the pair of galaxies ARP 273 consisting of two galaxies in collision processes and the shape of one of them - about

To celebrate the 21st birthday of the Hubble Space Telescope, the people of the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, Maryland, decided to direct the Hubble's eye to a particularly photogenic partner of a galaxy that is in the stages of merging between two galaxies that gave birth to it known as ARP 273

"For 21 years, Hubble fundamentally changed our view of the universe and allowed us to see deep into the past and open our eyes to the mysteries around us," said NASA Administrator Charles Bolden. "I had the honor of directing the space shuttle Discovery when it launched the Hubble. After all the time that has passed, new pictures of Hubble are still moving and inspiring. And they are testimony to the extraordinary work of many people behind the world-famous observatory."

The recently published images show a large spiral galaxy known as UGC 1810 whose disc is distorted and has become rose-shaped due to the gravitational tide exerted on it by a companion galaxy located below it and known as UGC 1813. A cluster of diamond-blue dots across the head of the galaxy are the combined light from clusters of bright blue young stars. This massive starlight is especially noticeable in ultraviolet light.
The small region shooting massive star formation is in the core of the galaxy, presumably preventing the star formation from rendezvous with the companion galaxy.
ARP 273 is in the Andromeda group and is about 300 million light years from Earth. The image shows gravitational bridges in which matter passes between the two galaxies separated by tens of thousands of light years.

  1. Are you ready to help me, I am from Zurich, material for the final of the national space quiz named after Ilan Ramon (I am 11 years old)

  2. My dear father
    Fix it
Instead of 300 light years there should be 300 million light years!!!
MichaL If my father doesn't have time, then you fix it
    Good Day

  3. A small mistake

ARP 273 is in the Andromeda group and is about 300 million light-years away from Earth.
A small error of a few light years
    Happy holiday
