Thousands of people came to the Hebrew University to hear Prof. Stephen Hawking's lecture on the origin of the universe

More than a thousand people filled the Mexico Hall on the Mount Scopus campus of the Hebrew University to hear the famous British scientist, Prof. Stephen Hawking, give a lecture on "The Origin of the Universe". The transcript of his lecture will be translated into Hebrew and will be published soon on the Hedaan website

Prof. Hawking's lecture at the Hebrew University was held on the last day of his visit to Israel. Thousands asked to be present at his lecture, far beyond the available seats in the hall, and therefore many people had to watch Prof. Hawking, broadcast live through screens in other halls on the Mount Scopus campus.

It is common to say that Prof. Stephen Hawking is the most brilliant theoretical physicist since Albert Einstein. In his lecture, Prof. Hawking explains a number of cosmological theories, starting with the early idea that speaks of a universe that has existed since time immemorial and ending with the approach that dominates today according to which the universe had a beginning and continues to change constantly.

According to Prof. Hawking, by combining Einstein's theory of relativity with quantum theory, the origin of the universe and its development can be explained. Prof. Hawking stated that "we are close to understanding the origin of the universe, but there is still a long way to go."

Prof. Hawking suffers from Lou Gehrig's disease - ALS which is a degenerative disease of the nervous system which has made him paralyzed in all four limbs. He is only able to speak through a computerized voice synthesizer by blinking his eyelids. A lot of preparation was done for this visit by Prof. Hawking because due to his health condition he had to pre-record his lectures and answer questions in advance.

Attached to this message is the transcript of Prof. Hawking's full lecture.

Comment from the site of the science: tonight we are uploading the English version. We hope for a translation in the coming days.
