Hawking said the words at the celebrations for his 65th birthday
At a birthday celebration held in honor of his 65th birthday, Prof. Stephen Hawking promised that despite his age he will continue to work and research and that he plans for himself quite busy years.
This year he plans to fly in a plane that takes off to a high altitude and then dives so that those inside feel the absence of gravity, in addition to this he plans to publish a children's book "George's Key to the Universe". Next year the professor planned to publish another book and the highlight - in 2009 he is supposed to take off into space as part of the flights of the Virgin Galactic company, the chairman of the company - Sir Richard Branson has already promised to finance his flight.
As you may remember, at the beginning of December, Hawking announced for the first time his hope to fly into space and the need to go outside to save humanity: "Humanity will have to leave the Earth in the long term in order to ensure the survival of the human race", at the ceremony of awarding the Copley Medal, the most important scientific award in Britain Hawking, who is completely physically paralyzed, stated his desire to fly into space himself, saying "My goal is to fly into space, maybe Richard Branson will help me".
Branson, the owner of Virgin Galactic, which plans to fly private passengers into space starting in 2008, for $200 per ticket, immediately responded to Hawking's request and announced that he would send the chief physician of Virgin Galactic to him this week, to check whether it was even possible Hawking, who is paralyzed in all parts of his body, will be flown into space. If Hawking's plan to fly into space is realized, he will be the first paralyzed person in space.
