Germany and Israel will hold a "science summit" at the beginning of next year with the participation of scientists, heads of universities and research institutes, ministers and policy makers in both countries. At the summit, 25 years of cooperation between the Technion and Aachen University in Germany will be celebrated. This was announced by the science ministers of Germany and Israel, during a joint visit they made to the Technion last week.

Germany's Minister of Education and Research, Professor Annette Schaban, said that the two countries have a long tradition of cooperation in the field of science. "At the summit, tangible projects will be presented, which the scientists of the two countries will continue to develop together," she emphasized. "This is a very rare thing and illustrates how strong the cooperation between the two countries is," she added. The Minister invited the Israeli Minister of Science, Professor Daniel Hershkovitz, to open a large international scientific institute with her in Germany next month and to visit the Cancer Research Institute.

The Minister of Science, Professor Daniel Hershkowitz, said that the unique summit was decided due to the very special relationship between Israeli and German science and research and thanks to the special personal relationship between him and the German minister. "The summit is a one-of-a-kind idea - to sit together the policy makers and all the research leaders", he added. "We all have very high expectations from this summit."

With the German minister came a large entourage of scientists and heads of universities. They heard an overview from the president of the Technion, Professor Peretz Lavi and his deputy for research, Professor Oded Shmueli, and visited the laboratories and the Alfred Mann Research and Development Institute.
