Chapter 28 – A new star
That night, the amazing news that awaited them echoed like thunder on a clear day throughout the length and breadth of the United States and then, crossed the ocean through all the telegraph lines in the world. The bullet was discovered, thanks to Long Peak's large reflecting telescope!
Below is the message received from the Director of the Cambridge Observatory. It contains scientific conclusions as to this great experiment of the Gunner's Club.
Long Peak, December 12
To: Cambridge Observatory Management

The charge launched by a projectile by the Columbiad at Stones Hill was discovered by Messrs. Belfast and Matson, December 12 at 8:47 p.m., the moon having reached its fourth quarter. The bullet did not hit its target. He crossed to the other side, but close enough to the pull of the moon.
The straight motion has thus changed to a circular motion at high speed, and it now strives for an elliptical orbit around the moon, which has made it a true satellite. The characteristics of this new star cannot yet be determined; We do not know the speed of his journey. The distance separating it from the surface of the moon should be 2,833 miles. However, two assumptions are in front of us for making a decision.
1. Either the attraction of the moon will end with their attraction to the moon and the passengers will achieve their goal, or
2. The projectile, due to the law of persistence, will continue to circle the moon until the end of time.

In the future, our observations may help determine this point, but until then, the Gunner Club's experiment has achieved nothing but adding a new star to our solar system.

third'. Belfast.

As for the question, how many questions did this unexpected document raise? What mysterious results are left for science to investigate in the future? In any case, the names of Nicole, Barbican and Michel Adraan will forever be remembered in the annals of astronomy.
When word of the letter from Long Peak became known, there was a feeling of surprise and alarm. Is it possible to help these brave travelers? No! Because they placed themselves beyond the reach of humanity, due to crossing the limits that the Creator placed on His earthly creatures. They had enough air for two months; They provided food for 12 months - and what then? There was only one person who did not know that the situation was desperate - his empowerment was certain - their devoted friend G, T, Mattson.
In addition, he did not let them out of his sight. He made Long Peak Observatory his home; The observatory's horizon, the reflective mirror. As soon as the moon rose on the horizon, he immediately caught it in the field of the telescope, he did not let it go out of the field of view and followed it in its orbit in interstellar space. He patiently and tirelessly watched the passage of the missile as it crossed the silver disc and certainly this honorable man remained in constant communication with his three friends, and did not despair of the prospect of seeing them again one day.
"These three people", he said, "carried all the resources of art, science and industry into space. With them they can do anything and you will see that one day, they will get out of it and be perfectly fine."
