The space shuttle Endeavor detached from the International Space Station yesterday (Fri) at 09:47 EST, 16:47 Israel time, as planned. The shuttle docked at the station for mission STS-126 for 11 days 16 hours and 46 minutes.

Endeavor arrived at the station on November 16 and her crew members transferred equipment that would help double the size of the crew from three to six. The equipment includes two sleeping positions, a kitchen, a system for recycling water in the station from every possible source, including the sweat of the astronauts and even their urine. As I recall, the installation of the system ran into difficulties and as a result a day was added to the task. The team members also installed another training facility to maintain the fitness of the astronauts in zero gravity conditions.

The astronauts also performed 4 spacewalks, where the main task was cleaning lubrication and replacing components in the drive system of the left adjustable solar collector.

In addition, the shuttle brought on board a new crew member, Sandra Magnus, who will replace on the 18th crew Greg Cheimtoff who returned to Earth aboard the Endeavour.

The shuttle is scheduled to land at the Kennedy Space Center on Sunday at 13:19 PM EST, 20:19 PM Israel Time.
