Last Saturday, Elon Musk announced on Twitter that his company, SpaceX, is conducting experiments with unmanned ships intended for the landing of launchers (drone ships) and new fins for the launchers, which he calls the X-wing configuration, which will allow the Falcon 9 launch missiles to make a soft landing in order to prepare them for reuse. 'x-wing configuration, see picture).

The unmanned ship is a vessel that will allow missiles to land on a safe platform away from populated areas with their return from space.

According to Musk, the ship can maintain stability within a range of 3 meters even during a storm and its deck area is 90 by 30 meters.

The company's second development, the fins for the supersonic missiles were designed to control the missiles during their return from space. Each fin can be activated individually. The fins will go in during launch to avoid creating friction. Their name was given to them due to the shape in which they burst out of the launcher in four different directions.

  1. The name is given because X sounds cool and T sounds old fashioned
These are not wings nor fins, since they are not used for navigation, but only for slowing down a spring parallel to the racks in airplanes
It seems that they invest a lot of effort in public relations there
