A professor from the Hebrew University is the first Israeli to be elected to the Scientific Council of the European Union

Prof. Danny Dolev from the Hebrew University was recently appointed by the European Commission as a member of the Scientific Council of the European Union, which is the governing body of the European Research Council (ERC). Prof. Dolev is the first Israeli to be elected to the Scientific Council of the European Union, which currently includes 22 scientists and academics from around the world.

The European Research Council provides funding for scientific research worldwide with the aim of encouraging scientific excellence and increasing competition between countries. Accordingly, the Scientific Council of the European Union, which manages the Research Council, is responsible for defining the research funding strategy, overseeing the management and implementing the work plan for the promotion of creativity and innovation in research.

"Prof. Dolev's appointment to the committee is a testament to the quality and level of scientists that have grown at the university, and reinforces the fact that the Hebrew University is a leading academic and research institution on an international scale," today the president of the Hebrew University, Prof. Menachem Ben-Shashon, congratulated the appointment. Every year, the Hebrew University is ranked among the universities that receive the highest number of research grants awarded to its researchers from the European Union, alongside the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.

Prof. Danny Dolev is a faculty member at the Benin School of Engineering and Computer Science at the Hebrew University and serves as the head of the Authority for Computing, Communication and Information at the Hebrew University. Prof. Dolev is a member of the Executive Committee of the Inter-University Computing Center (IAC), was previously the chairman of the National Committee for the Development of Information and ICT Infrastructures and wrote a position paper with MK Michael Eitan on the subject of preparing the State of Israel for the information age.
