Curiosity landed safely on Mars

NASA is breathing a sigh of relief, after the complex operation of landing the MSL spacecraft that carried the Curiosity SUV passed safely and that the vehicle stabilized on the ground

A few minutes ago, at 08:31, the signals from the landing of the MSL spacecraft and the release of the Curiosity SUV from it reached Earth.

The control room at NASA's JPL facility received the first images of the vehicle's wheels.

Earlier, NASA reported that the atmospheric entry stage was ignited and guided the spacecraft to the ground. Reinforced nylon ropes lowered the vehicle to the ground in a maneuver known as the "sky crane".

When the vehicle's sensors reported a landing, the cables were disconnected, and the landing stage flew away from the vehicle. The local time in Gale Crater is early afternoon, which corresponds to approximately three o'clock.

The head of NASA, Charles Bolden told NASA TV that despite the concerns 'we are on Mars again', and that Mars belongs to everyone and not just to NASA.

The rover's instruments will try to detect whether Mars ever contained life.

In the last few days, on the science website, we brought the series prepared by Yoav Landsman about Curiosity.

For the fifth episode: What equipment do you take to Mars?

First entry in the Curiosity series: How hard is it to land on Mars?
Second entry in the Curiosity series: Dive into the atmosphere of Mars
Part Three: End of Curiosity's landing phase
Fourth entry in the series: What are you looking for in Gale Crater on Mars?

  1. To the naked eye, you can recognize "romances" between NASA people by the clapping behind the backs of those sitting next to them, special hugs, body language, etc...
    I spotted some…

  2. Everything was filmed in Hollywood, the moon landing, the Mars landings, everything.

    What did you not know?

  3. I didn't understand, what was filmed in Hollywood? Bitorent's landing or NASA's spacecraft? And why are you changing nicknames?
    Ugh it's so complicated

  4. .. and I thought it was about a spacecraft landing on Mars... Thank you for enlightening my eyes..

  5. R.H. Rafai.M,
What fun to see such pure joy.
I'm also glad that speech on communication still sounds like it was from the 60s. Since they are constantly purchasing new communication equipment, in which speech sounds as it should, they must have an entire communication department whose job it is to add speech noises in DSP (the department also includes diction specialists). Since the rights to the noises belong to Hollywood (from War of the Worlds, the one with Richard Burton to the movie Apollo 13), they have to purchase them from them or download them illegally and because of the budget cuts, he decided to download them illegally. And this is the real history of the development of the bittorrent protocol

  6. One who responds
And did you notice how many times they hugged?
So much so, that the time they spent hugging was more than the time they spent when they landed the Curiosity spacecraft on Mars.
    Damn…. They are still hugging

  7. It's a shame they didn't release some small camera on a parachute to film the entire landing process... it would have been so cool to see it with your own eyes.

  8. Maybe America isn't that far behind in science?

Cut off they say: never mind, get into the spaceship.

  9. If you're listening to the live broadcast, notice how many times the NASA people mention the two words: inspiration to children.
Together with the Olympics, this is a great time for children to get inspiration from the right places, but unfortunately this time is also tainted by the religious madness that is raging in our region and the world.

  10. What excitement I was hooked on NASA TV all morning.
Happily mixed with sadness, now after the budget cut the best minds of NASA will be fired.

  11. The moment of truth has arrived - will the little reds of Orson Welles take over "Curiosity"??

    Expect sensational surprises ……….!!!
