(A note published on the "Science Communication" Facebook page, the series will be available to watch starting next Sunday, April 16 on the National Geographic channel Hot and Bis).
Today, Sunday, a once-in-a-generation event is supposed to take place. For those who were too young to remember the original "Cosmos" series or for those who want to know what was updated with the discoveries described by the late Carl Sagan in the original series, will have the opportunity to watch starting tonight (unfortunately not in Israel) a new series starring the astronomer Neil deGrasse Tyson on the Fox channel (as I remember the series The original was broadcast on the public channel PBS).

NASA screened several trailers for the series at several of its centers, and the first reviews on Twitter indicate a lot of excitement in the hall. In the attached video, you can see the part of the questions and answers with the main actors after the screening of the premiere episode.
When I watched "Cosmos", I saw a researcher, born in Brooklyn, remove the veil from a world of concentrated scientific perception, that together with the fragrance of Barnum's Circus, he was able to present the materials in a way that made them accessible to those without degrees in mathematics or physics" said Seth MacFarlane , the executive producer of "Cosmos", also known as the creator of FAMILY GUY.

"He was able to discuss the distant stars in the world that suddenly became relevant to our everyday lives, and he did it with such great fervor, enthusiasm and love for the knowledge he was sharing that even people with little interest in science found it impossible not to join the journey."

The original series aired in 1980 and won three Primetime Emmy Awards. Sagan, who was involved in NASA missions such as Voyager, combined his work experience with much more thoughtful thoughts about the universe, the role of intelligence, and the future of the universe. The series is still easy to buy, despite its age, so we're sure Fox is hoping for the same longevity for the new series.

DeGrasse Tyson is the director of communications for the Hayden Planetarium in New York. Like Sagan, he writes in New York about popular science, appearing regularly on television programs, not necessarily scientific ones, such as the Colbert Report, where he is considered the guest with the most appearances.

Just one interesting thing: how will Tyson overcome explaining scientific events about which the Fox network has formed an unscientific opinion, such as evolution or global warming? Presumably Tyson was given leeway, because otherwise he wouldn't have contributed his reputation to the series.
