Procter & Gamble, the world's largest consumer products company, and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem have signed a comprehensive agreement for research cooperation through Application, the university's technology commercialization company.

"This collaboration is the first of its kind by Procter & Gamble in Israel, and is an important pillar following the memorandum of understanding that Procter & Gamble signed in December 2010 with the Office of the Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. This agreement allows Procter & Gamble's leading scientists and researchers to collaborate with the Hebrew University's leading research faculty in fields such as biology and chemistry, with the goal of producing innovation that we can incorporate into a wide range of Procter & Gamble products," said Jeff Hammer, Vice President of R&D at Procter & Gamble Corporation.

"We are very excited to collaborate with a company with the scope and leadership of Procter & Gamble. This collaboration is a testament to the level and diversity of the groundbreaking science that is being carried out at the Hebrew University, the leading university in Israel," said Yaakov Michlin, CEO of Ipsos. "We believe that this cooperation will contribute greatly to both parties and look forward to enjoying its fruits in the years to come."

Procter & Gamble has many brands that are worth 23 billion dollars and is the world leader in personal care, hygiene, snacks and home care. The company employs about 127,000 people worldwide and its annual turnover is 80 billion dollars.
In 2001, Procter & Gamble opened an office in Israel, which has since tripled its sales in the local market. In November 2007, the corporation's management announced a program for technological cooperation with Israel and established a dedicated branch for this purpose, called Israel House of Innovation (IHI). This unit works to locate entrepreneurs, researchers and companies that develop ideas that fulfill Procter & Gamble's technological needs.

Ms. Sophie Blum, CEO of Procter & Gamble in Israel, said today, "The cooperation agreement between Procter & Gamble and the Hebrew University is an excellent proof of Israel's leadership in science and technology. In recent years, Procter & Gamble chose to create partnerships in Israel to create innovation, thanks to being a world leader in this field, and established its innovation center - IHI - in Israel. The agreement will allow Procter & Gamble to benefit from the wealth of research carried out at the Hebrew University and to cooperate in the creation of innovative products that improve the daily lives of people all over the world."
