A new Israeli medical device, developed by Shachel Telemedicine, called Cardio R, will monitor the heart rate and atrial fibrillation, which leads to heart failure, stroke and sudden death, and through cellular technology will transmit the data to Shachel's medical center immediately. The device will be provided at this stage free of charge and the monitoring will allow detection of heart rhythm disturbances and the attending cardiologist will have the opportunity to regularly monitor the ECG transmissions and view the event report recorded by the patient.

The device transmits the information recorded by the patient using cellular technology. In addition, when recording the event, the patient can enter the degree of physical activity and the symptoms, and if an arrhythmia is found, this ability will allow examining the relationship between the symptoms the patient complained about, the level of physical activity when the symptoms were felt, and the EKG findings at that time. The device also has many other important benefits in monitoring people who have undergone surgeries or other procedures that cause an increase in the incidence of arrhythmias.

The report that the doctor will receive will include a decoding of the arrhythmias and will be carried out by the medical center of Shehal Telemedicine in order to quickly and accurately and skillfully diagnose the arrhythmias. According to national assessment data, about 5% of Israelis suffer from arrhythmias. Within the complex of the medical field called arrhythmias, the most common phenomenon that can be dangerous and in some cases even fatal is called atrial fibrillation resulting from a malfunction in the electrical conduction system of the heart. The fibrillation leads to heart failure, stroke and sudden death. Along with it there are other phenomena that are not life-threatening but impair the quality of life by causing a feeling of weakness and even fainting. Rapid diagnosis of the arrhythmia and treatment selection is of great medical value and saves lives.

As mentioned above, the Cardio R device will be provided free of charge, during the coming months, without condition in the health insurance funds or a subscription to Shahal, through the treating cardiologists all over the country, to healthy Israelis who are suspected of suffering from arrhythmias, the provision of the devices free of charge is a joint initiative of the cardiologists in Israel and telemedicine and provided as a service to the public.

Ikki Alrai, Vice President of Research and Development at Shehal Telemedicine says: "We are always thinking about how we can improve and offer the best to the public. The device is easy and convenient for the patient and is supported in the Hebrew language. It includes monitoring capability for the attending physician and clear and accurate reports that will enable fast and reliable detection of arrhythmias. In addition, since this is a device intended for continuous daily use, we decided to use hypoallergenic electrodes that provide a more pleasant touch to the skin." Elrai concludes.

How will you know if you suffer from arrhythmias?

  • Very fast or irregular heartbeat.
  • A feeling of impending fainting or a feeling of extreme weakness and seeing "black eyes".
  • Fainting events that have no other explanation.
