Space suit - the next generation

Researchers from MIT are designing a spacesuit that is flexible and easy to move

Tal Inbar, "Galileo" magazine
A group of researchers from MIT, led by Prof. Dava Newman (Newman) and former astronaut Dr. Jeffrey Hoffman (Hoffman), has been engaged in recent years in the development of a new, light and flexible space suit, which can be used by the astronauts who may reach Mars in about two or three years decades.
Space suits are designed to protect those who wear them from the extreme conditions of space - vacuum, a very large temperature range, radiation of various types and micro-meteorites. Suits designed for walking on the surface of the moon (or in the future Mars) pose new engineering challenges, such as the need for comfortable walking shoes, great strength of the suit and resistance to abrasion or tearing due to friction with rocks or tripping on the ground.
The MIT team developed an innovative concept of a suit known as the Bio Suit. This suit combines flexible and strong fabrics, which exert pressure on the astronaut's body, with semi-rigid parts that create a kind of exoskeleton, which responds to the astronaut's movements. This suit allows for much easier movement than the cumbersome spacesuits of today. Every space suit is also a pressure suit, but while the pressure present in space suits today originates from the compression of the suit in the air, the pressure in the innovative suit is created directly through the mechanical pressure of the suit itself on the wearer's body.
The current spacesuits are filled with air, and when operating in a vacuum they tend to swell and make the wearer's movement very difficult. The new suit is not filled with air, so it does not inflate and does not restrict movement. What's more - the suit includes a special gel that is able to seal the suit if there is a tear in it. A fascinating innovation included in the suit is the "spray and wear" method - special polymers will be sprayed on the crew member's body (when he is naked), creating the inner layer of the suit, and after drying, the outer layer will be worn.
Former astronaut Jeffrey Hoffman, who serves as a professor at MIT, knows a thing or two about the awkwardness of spacesuits - he flew into space five times during his rich career at NASA, twice of them for maintenance missions for the Hubble Space Telescope. Hoffman accumulated many tens of hours of free-floating in space.
Students from a variety of fields of study also take part in the project, who are integrated into the work and the accompanying physiological and technological research. At this point, it is not clear whether NASA will adopt the innovative design for the space suits of the future.

  1. See this site as scientific and please treat it at the required levels, with all your giggling you did not make any relevant reference except for personal expressions towards and a word or two about politics, a shoemaker looking at shoes, you were not just talking about politics, you are probably in a conflict with yourself, when you get healthy and want to talk facts and science - be serious, The comparison to the Nazis is that they hated Jews almost as much as you hate Judaism.

  2. Hello Moti Gilboa..

At first, I read your detailed response.
..and I smiled..to Tommy I thought you wanted to make fun of us a little..
I was scratching my head..and why and why not send politicians..since your plan..APS
Brings up aromas of a political route..interesting..and again I wondered..he wants to get there
    or not??.??and...then...a malicious creature, something..static..reminded me..suddenly..to stay
With an open mind..and again I remembered..that this British policy path..after all sat
the continent of Australia..and if there is dew and frost on Mars..who knows?..maybe in XNUMX
Mars is calling the reds..to return home,,IT..IT..hmmmmm.
    Well, I said, it was a joke...passing.

Now, when you are determined to look into the matter, in depth... as it appears on the face of it,
I'm starting to think that even the Germans at that time had such a fantasy, they also checked
The matter, they were very, very keen..for various purification processes and their prevention..the eagle was
Their flag..also a very nice clone..and I see, God willing..Hamsa..that they have very determined successors to the mission..by the way, did you do a bald-shave, by any chance?

What's for sure! Politician or not politician, if you find the right matching suit
I will recommend you, as the first one, to fly there.

And in the meantime, we have quite a few gravitational "heavy-weight" problems here
Not yet completely resolved, from a scientific point of view...
And between us... there is no lack of space on earth.. and in this place.. even criminals.. are given
An initiative to mend their ways..and in a good spirit...bye..bye..

  3. A spacesuit is a huge source of inspiration for technological developments that will change humanity for the better:

    1. Space exploration.
    2. Development of smart prostheses that respond to the wearer's movement.
    3. Exploring the depths.
    4. Combining materials to mediate between the human body and the machine.
    5. Unfortunately: improvement of weapons.

What if it would be possible to wrap existing products in the suit material to extend their lifespan?

    Another 30 years…. spray and that's it :)
