The government approved the appointment of Adv. Bina Bar-On as Director General of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Space

Attorney Bar-On will replace Menachem Greenblum who held the position for the past three and a half years.

The government approved today, July 21, 2013, the appointment of attorney Bina Bar-On as the director general of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Space. Attorney Bar-On will replace Menachem Greenblum who held the position for the past three and a half years.

Attorney Bina Bar-On (62), is a graduate of the Faculty of Law of the Hebrew University. She recently finished her position as the CEO of the Industrial Cooperation Authority (Hashafat) at the Ministry of Economy after a very successful term of about nine years.

As part of her position at the Industrial Cooperation Authority, she was responsible for developing new markets for Israeli industry, leveraging exports, assisting the defense industries in exporting abroad, including the space industries, forging ties with corresponding mutual procurement agencies abroad, bringing foreign companies committed to research and development to Israel in the scope Investments of hundreds of millions of dollars and more. During her tenure, the mutual procurement that foreign companies carry out in Israel was greatly expanded and it stands at over 22.5 billion dollars. As a result of the activities of the Industrial Cooperation Authority, hundreds of Israeli industrial enterprises, defense and civilian, have benefited from business opportunities, investments, new markets and the transfer of knowledge and technologies from foreign companies to Israel.

Prior to that, Attorney Bar-On served for 15 years in a variety of positions in the Ministry of Environmental Protection, including: Deputy to the Director General of the Ministry, Senior Vice President for Administration and Human Resources, and Director of the Enforcement Department.

Outgoing CEO Menachem Greenblum chaired the committee to examine the national space program, as a result of which the Israel Space Agency received an increased budget of NIS 180 million. As part of his position, he reestablished bodies that were not active within the ministry, such as the Israel Space Agency Committee and the National R&D Council. During his tenure, success was recorded in meeting the goals and implementing the work plans at a level of over 90% execution. Greenblum was a successful partner in increasing the ministry's budget fourfold, promoting national scientific projects, expanding Israel's international science ties, and developing new projects to make science accessible to the general public and populations worthy of promotion.

Minister of Science, Technology and Space Jacob Perry thanked Greenblum for his position: "His contribution to the advancement of science, technology and space in the State of Israel is felt throughout his years of office. I cherish and thank Menachem Greenblum for a tenure full of achievements while establishing the field of research and development in Israel.'
The appointment of Attorney Bina Bar-On is subject to the approval of a committee headed by the State Service Commissioner.
