In 1974, Charles Berlitz wrote about the famous Sabbath in accidents, or rather in mysteries, in his book "Bermuda Triangle". This is the story of Flight 19 - five US Navy bombers that took off on a routine training flight in December 1945 from Florida. During the flight, the pilots reported strange phenomena, and the flight commander reported that there was a malfunction in the compass system on his plane. All the pilots and their planes did not return to their base, and moreover - no sign of an accident was found. They just disappeared. What added to the mystery is that the plane that was sent to search for survivors or the parts of the aircraft in the middle of the sea disappeared.
Later, several "holes" were discovered in Berlitz's story - from the version of the flight controllers who were in wireless contact with the pilots of Flight 19, it turned out that these were inexperienced trainee pilots led by a commander with a navigation system malfunction, and apparently they deviated from their course, the weather was stormy, and the fuel in the planes ended when they flew over the ocean, and therefore their chances of being saved were nil. The plane that was sent to look for them apparently exploded in the air - according to the testimonies of sailors who saw an explosion of an aircraft in the air. The point is that this model of plane was notorious as a "flying bomb" - and this was not the first or second accident of this type of plane. Berlitz's critics accused him of "inflating" the "mysterious" aspects, and claimed that the "disappearances" in the Bermuda Triangle are not more numerous than in any similar area in the ocean.
To date, the uniqueness of the Bermuda Triangle has not been scientifically proven, or alternatively not refuted. However, insurance companies routinely insure air and sea transport vehicles that move on routes that pass within the Bermuda Triangle, and insurance feasibility calculations, as we know, rely on statistics.
