Prof. Chachanover, Menashe Kadishman, Nochi Dankner and Abe Foxman are among the nine recipients of the 'Honorary Doctorate' degree at Bar-Ilan

Bar-Ilan University will award nine "Honorary Doctorate" degrees to individuals from Israel and abroad this coming Tuesday, as part of the 52nd session of the Board of Trustees' events.

Prof. Aharon Chachanover of the Technion in Haifa, winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2004, will receive the title of "Honorary Doctor" for his groundbreaking research in the field of protein breakdown mechanisms in the living body, and for his commitment to the task of maintaining the quality and achievements of the education, research and higher education system in Israel . Prof. Chachanover's research is widely recognized internationally and his discoveries are expected to greatly affect the quality of human life and the possibility of saving lives.

Israel's ambassador to the UN, Danny Gillerman, will receive the title in recognition of his proud standing at the forefront of Israeli advocacy and his important and significant contribution to strengthening the country's position in the international community. Gilerman, former chairman of the Union of Chambers of Commerce, is considered one of Israel's most loyal representatives throughout its years.

The CEO of the "Anti-Defamation League" in the United States, Avraham (Abe) Foxman, will receive the honorary title for his steadfast presence at the forefront of the campaign against hate crimes and racism, openly anti-Semitic and anti-Zionist, and for his many years of activity to strengthen Jewish education and identity around the world. Recently, Mr. Foxman reveals a lot of involvement in the issue of the extreme statements of the heads of the regime in Iran and demands that the UN take harsh measures against it due to the denial of the Holocaust and its threats to Israel.

The university will also pay tribute to Nohi Dankner, one of the prominent businessmen in Israel, for his decisive contribution to the growth of the Israeli economy as an entrepreneur and as a leading industrialist, for his good work for society, as well as for his significant support in training the future generation of university scientists. During and after the Second Lebanon War, Mr. Dankner was rescued in the task of rebuilding the northern settlements, and he also did so in the settlements surrounding Gaza and the city of Sderot.

The painter and sculptor Menashe Kadishman, one of Israel's leading artists, will be awarded the title of "Honorary Doctor" on behalf of Bar-Ilan University for the entirety of his original and diverse work that reflects human-moral, Jewish and pioneer-Zionist values, and for his unique contribution to the development of art history in Israel. Kadishman is the recipient of the Israel Prize in Sculpture for the year 1995 (XNUMX), and many of his works reside in museums and collections of the most important in the world.

In addition to this, the titles will be awarded to persons from abroad who excel in philanthropic activity and stand in the right of Bar-Ilan University, with the aim of contributing to its continued academic growth. Mr. Everard Goodman of Great Britain will be honored for his constant commitment to Jewish causes and charities in Great Britain and Israel, his inspiring support of medical centers throughout the country, and the generous support he and his family provide to the University. Mr. Jack Slomovic from Los Angeles, will receive the title for his extensive activities to promote Jewish education and to ensure the continuity and vitality of the Jewish communities in the United States, as well as for his impressive support of the university's scientific goals. Businessman Mark Rich, who lives in Switzerland, was included in the list of degree recipients due to his continued generosity in favor of educational, cultural, health and welfare institutions in Israel and the Diaspora, and his important contribution to the advancement of research activities at the university. Mrs. Patricia Friedland will be awarded the honorable academic decoration for many years of dedicated activity for the Jewish community in Canada and for Israel, and for her steadfast support of Bar-Ilan's academic goals.

As part of the events of the board of trustees, a lifetime achievement award will also be presented to the singer Yehoram Gaon for his outstanding contribution to the development of the Hebrew singer and for his poetry expressing love and gratitude for the Land of Israel and the city of Jerusalem. The award will be given to Mr. Gaon at an academic conference that will deal with Israeli songs, and which will be held this coming Sunday.

According to the president of the university, Prof. Moshe Koa: "The list of winners of the prestigious title is diverse and impressive, and it includes achievers in various fields whose work and values ​​are in line with the special spirit of the university."
