What about augmented reality and cereal boxes?

The graphic and engineering software company Dassault Systèmes has developed a system that makes it possible to turn a cereal box into a remote for a computer game. Nestlé, which previously collaborated with Dassault in France, released cereal boxes with a computer game that can be played when the box is moved in front of the computer camera.

The Dassault Systèmes company, a manufacturer of XNUMXD engineering planning software, and the food manufacturer Nestlé revealed yesterday at the Cinema City complex in Israel their collaboration that was created following a similar collaboration between the Dassault center in France and the established Nestlé.

A special label that can be read by a computer is printed on the Nestlé cereal boxes (in Israel's case it is the Crunch series) when placed in front of a camera connected to that computer. From the outside, it looks like just a black square, but when you enter the designated website and aim the black square at the computer's webcam, a game is activated with the participation of a cartoon character who is supposed to collect balls. Moving the box makes it possible to move the character on the screen, thus turning the box into a kind of remote control for a computer game, or as Zehava Martonovich, CEO of Nestlé's breakfast cereal division, said - WII for everyone and not just for those who can afford to purchase the console.

Gilad Friedman, CEO of Dassault Systèmes Israel, says in a conversation with us: "The Augmented Reality technology is actually our part that is carried out through the brand called 3DVIA - . The software was previously intended for engineers and manufacturers who could illustrate to consumers in XNUMXD on the computer screen what the planned product would look like. Integrating the augmented reality component allows our customers to discover creative ways to experience new or old products in a different way.

"It's a three-dimensional interaction between the product and the end user, in this case it's youth, children - even adults in a very interactive way. Take breakfast cereal - and in fact it can be any product, and using cheap devices such as a webcam and an internet connection you can experience the product. We didn't put pigeon chips in the box, the technology only works through the network."

In his estimation, it will be possible to find augmented reality technology in many other applications in the near future.
