A new study conducted at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev states that Celebrex and modern anti-inflammatory drugs from the coxibs group counteract the positive effects of aspirin to prevent the formation of blood clots.

The study, published in the journal -Proceedings, of the National Academy of Sciences in the United States of America (PNAS), shows that people taking aspirin together with anti-inflammatory drugs (coxibs) actually inhibit the effectiveness of aspirin in preventing heart attacks and strokes.

"This finding indicates that people who consume coxibs and at the same time a low dose of aspirin tablets are exposed to a greater risk of heart attacks," said Prof. Gilad Rimon, from the Department of Clinical Pharmacology at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.

A new class of anti-inflammatory drugs, coxibs, which also includes Celebrex and Arcoxia, was developed in the last decade to treat arthritis, as well as other pain. It is recommended that arthritis patients who take Celebrex take low-dose aspirin, in order to neutralize the potential of Celebrex to cause blood clots.

Aspirin is an old anti-inflammatory drug known for its properties to prevent blood clots that can lead to heart attacks and strokes. Therefore, doctors often advise patients who are more vulnerable to heart disease to take a daily low-dose aspirin pill (81 mg). About 50 million Americans take aspirin daily to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Research now shows that in the presence of coxibs the function of aspirin as a drug that prevents blood clots is impaired.

This finding is the result of a research collaboration conducted at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor that showed for the first time that Celebrex and other coxibs are responsible for lowering the protective quality of aspirin.

Future experiments planned in humans should find the appropriate conditions in terms of doses and frequency of administration so that aspirin provides the best protection against blood clotting even while using drugs from the COXIBS family.

  1. If I found it useful I would add details, there is someone in Greek mythology who was punished to live his life again and again forever, sometimes someone close to you is hurt and you want to give back, sometimes you have already paid for something - you don't particularly miss it. Sincerely

  2. As someone who dabbled a bit in time reversals, I got to see and feel my body become young, and my thoughts go in close phase and become young again. Sincerely

  3. It seems we are moving towards a world without death.
Maybe not in our generation, we will live like mice (barely 130 years)
But our descendants will have to deal with the rather troubling issue
How (or why) do I want to eliminate myself?
As it stands right now - people will want to leave simply because they won't have money.
But if the perception of P. Venus will work - after all, this reason will not exist either and we will ask for a reason (if any) to eliminate ourselves voluntarily.

  4. As far as I know, aspirin is also anti-inflammatory. Maybe we can give up
    On the other hand…
