The president of the Technion, Professor Yitzhak Apluig, was elected for a second four-year term, starting on October XNUMX. The Technion Curatorium, at its last meeting, approved the decision of the Technion Council on the matter.
Professor Afluig was born in 1944 in Bukhara, Uzbekistan, and immigrated to Israel at the age of three. He completed all his degrees in chemistry with honors at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and currently holds a chair and professor in the chemistry faculty at the Technion.
Before his election as president four years ago, he held a variety of key positions at the Technion, including the dean of the Faculty of Chemistry.
The extensive academic activity of the president of the Technion includes more than 180 publications in the international scientific press, and the editing of seven books. He is an editorial board member of several international scientific newspapers, has served and serves as chairman of scientific conferences in Israel and abroad, and in various international committees. His contributions to silicon chemistry, organic chemistry and computational chemistry were recognized in Israeli and international awards.
Professor Yitzhak Apluig educated generations of chemists and he continues to teach, guide students for advanced degrees and research in the fields of chemistry, even during his presidency.
