Amazon Web Services announced its second wind farm in Ohio

Amazon Web Services (AWS) of Amazon announced its second wind farm in Ohio - Amazon Wind Farm US Central 2. This is AWS's fifth global renewable energy project, the second in Ohio. The new wind farm is expected to generate more than 530,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy annually, enough to power 50,000 homes annually.

Amazon Web Services (AWS), an Amazon.com company, announced Amazon Wind US Central 2, a new 189 megawatt wind farm in Hardin County, Ohio, that will generate 530,000 megawatt-hours of wind energy annually, starting Since December 2017. Amazon has partnered with EverPower, a leading company in wind energy projects, which will build and operate the new wind farm it will own. This is AWS's fifth renewable energy project in the US (and its second wind farm in Ohio), which will provide energy to the electric grid serving the The AWS data centers located in the Ohio and Northern Virginia regions. When the construction of the new wind farm is completed, the five AWS renewable energy projects will generate a total of 2.2 million megawatt-hours per year, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 200,000 US homes. B.

In November 2014, AWS revealed its long-term commitment to reach 100 percent renewable energy use for its global infrastructure facilities. Over the past two years, thanks to ambitious initiatives, AWS has achieved above and beyond its goal of reaching 2016 percent renewable energy use in 40, and has set a new goal of operating using 50 percent renewable energy by the end of 2017.

In addition to investing in solar projects and wind projects, which provide more renewable energy to the power grids that operate the AWS cloud data centers, the company continues to modernize its facilities and services, to increase energy efficiency, as well as promote federal and state policies in the US, with the aim of creating an energy environment A fan renews. For example, in Ohio Amazon is advocating changes to the local law dealing with the minimum distance between industrial wind turbines and residential areas, to encourage more investment in renewable wind energy projects.

This second wind project in Ohio joins the Amazon Wind Farm US Central (with a production capacity of 100 MW) in Paulding County, announced by AWS in November 2015, which will begin generating wind energy in May 2017. Other AWS projects in the US in the field of renewable energy include a wind farm in Indiana (100 MW) and a wind farm In Virginia (80 MW) - both are already producing electricity. A wind farm in North Carolina (280 MW) is under construction and expected to start generating electricity by December 2016.

"We remain committed to achieving our long-term goal of running the AWS cloud with 100 percent renewable energy," said Peter DeSantis, vice president of infrastructure at AWS. "There are many things involved in making this vision a reality, including governments implementing policies that encourage the production of cost-effective renewable energy, businesses that buy this energy, economically renewable projects from our development partners and power companies, as well as technological and operational innovation that promotes greater efficiency in our global infrastructure. We continue to push on all these fronts, to advance the achievement of our renewable energy goals."

Beyond the existing initiatives that focus on supplying energy to the AWS global infrastructure, Amazon is investing in a number of other clean energy activities throughout the company. Examples of other projects include Amazon's wind farm in Texas (253 megawatts), green roofs, and an energy project that uses recycled energy to heat Amazon's Seattle offices.

  1. In Israel there are projects at the forefront of science in renewable energy. Solar farms, a thermal farm with a wind chimney hundreds of meters high (perhaps carved in a cave), the Gilboa project that raises water by pumping up the Gilboa in the evening, and lowers water in the morning for hydroelectric generation - during high rate hours, and the profit comes from the difference in rates between hours. And there are more and more projects. You can also report on what is happening in Israel. The scope of all solar electricity in Eilat and the Arava until 2020, high voltage (400 kV, 160 kV) is planned to reach 500 megawatts. This is from a lecture about a short fault in the Eilat area - scientifically analyzed with a simulation tool. This is the extent of a small power plant or 1/2 a large power plant. In Germany, the state offers a grant of up to 30,000 euros to any citizen who purchases energy storage batteries such as those sold by Tesla. There are farmers in Israel who stopped raising chickens in the coop and raise electricity up to the roof of the coop. Without doing anything they earn up to NIS 14,000 a month. By the way, this should also be included in an economic model. The economy will not grow from farmers who stop producing and receive an electricity price from the state. The whole country is buzzing with a renewable energy boom - there is something to report.

  2. In Israel, the opening of a market for 10,000 renewable energy licenses was announced last week. A second wind farm is also being built in the Golan Heights. This hurts large electricity producers, which are also needed. But in Germany this resulted in the fact that in the summer on average there is 50% renewable energy mostly solar, and at the peak 78%. This also resulted in large electricity producers using the various fuel methods contacting the government and explaining that if this continues, they will close. Impossible without big manufacturers. Renewable energy does not allow production according to demand and dealing with peak consumption. Germany, which is a testing ground for techno-economic models, as well as Texas, is now looking for a golden path. This week was the annual 2016 Electricity and Electronics Conference in Eilat and there was a professor from Princeton University who gave workshops on an open energy economy. Shmuel Oren. It would be nice if my father came once a year to the conference. 300 scientific/technological lectures run there and you will surely find new things to report on. This week there is the IEEE 2016 conference in Eilat and I also lecture there as a doctoral student. You will find there Israeli innovations in all fields of engineering from all universities. The conference convenes once every two years. I can send you content. It is worth reporting - which international conferences are of a very high level with the participation of professors from around the world. For example, there was a smart grid panel at the 2016 electricity conference (smart grid) that brought 5 lecturers from around the world, some of them doctors, who explained different modules in a smart grid.
