In an official and solemn ceremony in the capacity of the President of the country, Shimon Peres and the Governor General of Canada, David Lloyd Johnston, a new memorandum of understanding for scientific academic cooperation between the Israeli National Academy of Sciences and the Royal Canadian Academy was signed last week in Ottawa and will come into effect today.

At the ceremony, the president of the academy, Prof. Ruth Arnon, and her colleague, the Canadian president, Prof. Yolanda Griza, said that they welcome the accelerated activity and the new cooperation between the two countries in the spirit of the agreement that was signed.
"This agreement between the academies will enable close meetings of scientists in the field of brain research from both countries and they mark the belief of both institutions in the principles of cooperation and in their transformation into immediate programs" - said Prof. Griza and added that she considers it an honor for the Royal Canadian Academy in its 130th year to participate in an innovative project with our colleagues The esteemed ones from Israel, whose excellent scientists are active partners in promoting research and international scientific projects.

Prof. Arnon said that "the achievements of Israeli researchers and their contribution to research and development entrepreneurship are evident in prestigious international awards, including the Nobel Prize and the Canadian Gardner Prize. However, as a national academy in a small country we recognize the value of relationships with scientists in countries with advanced science such as Canada. This agreement will open another door for scientists from the two countries to cooperate and will strengthen international scientific development."
