Impressive achievements for the Israeli chemistry team at the International Chemistry Olympiad, which took place during the last few days in a unique format due to the corona virus - a gold medal, 2 silver medals and a bronze medal.
During the past week, 240 young men and women from 60 countries around the world took part in the 52nd International Olympiad in Chemistry, which was held this year in a unique format and via zoom, following the Corona virus.
Israel has been participating in the Olympics since 2006. This year Turkey led the management of the Olympics in which the Israeli national team reached impressive and proud achievements - all members of the national team won medals and for the first time in a decade a student of the national team won a gold medal.

The members of the Israeli chemistry team who represented the State of Israel with honor: Roy Par from Magen Haim - won a gold medal, Shafer from Mein Ward - won a silver medal, Ron Shaprinz from Ashdod - won a silver medal, Ward Yahya from Teiyeva - won a bronze medal.

The Ministry of Education and the Center for Future Scientists of the Maimonides Foundation lead the training of the teams to participate in the International Olympics starting in 2017 as part of a joint venture. The Israeli chemistry team was trained at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, the Shulich Faculty of Chemistry. The delegation was accompanied by Professor Zeev Gross from the Technion's Shulich Faculty of Chemistry, who also serves as the dean of the continuing and external studies unit and heads a variety of national youth chemistry programs, and the team's head coach Dr. Izna Nigel-Ettinger. The graduates of the International Olympiads also took part in the training of the students, Raz Lotan - a bachelor's degree student in mathematics at the Technion, Assaf Ma'oda - a bachelor's and master's degree graduate in chemistry and a master's degree student in computers, and Varon Refali - a bachelor's degree student in chemistry.

The Minister of Education, Yoav Galant, congratulated the Israeli team in chemistry and said: "The students of Israel, the future generation of the country, reach extraordinary international achievements time and again in science competitions. My great appreciation to Roy Parr, Bar Shaffer, Ron Schprintz and Ward Yahya - who brought a lot of honor and pride to the State of Israel, especially in this complex period.

Also in the year XNUMX, the Ministry of Education will continue to invest in and support the training of the Israeli national teams in the fields of science. This is alongside developing and improving the abilities of all Israeli students, in all parts of the country, and providing an equal opportunity for all students to reach their potential in various fields.'

Director General of the Ministry of Education, Amit Adri: "Israel's education system records another impressive achievement in the sciences. The students' wins in the International Olympiad in Chemistry and the European Competition in Physics place Israel at the forefront of the world of science. And on this front, we would also like to see a wider representation of female students in the future. In view of the importance of the issue, I intend to promote this important goal. I congratulate our students on their impressive achievements, and want to thank the dedicated team of coaches who worked tirelessly to reach this important moment."

Director General of the Center for Future Scientists of the Maimonides Foundation, Eli Fried: "I congratulate the students of the Israeli chemistry team, who have brought great honor and great pride to the State of Israel. Even in these challenging days, in Israel as in the whole world, the students of the national team and the professional team persevered in training, with great investment and determination to succeed, excel and achieve achievements.

The Center for Future Scientists of the Maimonides Foundation will continue to promote, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, the training of Israel's national teams in the sciences with a significant investment and high-quality training, which will help our students break through."

Vice President ICT Technology and Information Systems, Dr. Ofer Rimon: "The Israeli chemistry team represented the State of Israel and our education system with honor. The students of the national team have determinedly and persistently come a long way, continuous with learning, practice and effort. We are full of appreciation and gratitude for our students and believe that they should serve as a model for excellence.

We will continue to invest in our students and give them tools that will allow them to conquer peaks and make Israel a leading country in the world."

The head of the youth programs from the Shulich Faculty of Chemistry at the Technion, Prof. Zeev Gross: "Well done to the students who stood bravely in the arduous preparation journey. The extensive and in-depth preparations of the delegation, led by Dr. Izna Nigel Ettinger, gave the students the knowledge and mental fortitude needed to get the most out of themselves at the moment of truth: a 5-hour theoretical test during which they were required to solve more than 100 questions.
The Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry E.S. Shulich, Prof. Morris Eisen, the head of the administration Hanna Olstein, the coordinator of the program Shirley Kaplan and the laboratory engineers Gabriela Halevi and Emma Gertz are also involved in this extensive effort. Special thanks to past Olympic medal winners who contributed a lot of their experience and time, Asaf Ma'oda, Raz Lotan and Ron Refali, who are now students at the Technion.

We note that in the Mendeleev Asian-European Olympiad, which took place ten days earlier (with the participation of 27 countries, also online), in addition to the four students mentioned above, Michael Belgula from Kfar Hirok and Itamar Steinitz from Ramat Hasharon also participated. In this competition, the Israeli team picked up 5 more medals (2 silver and 3 bronze).

  1. Well done to the students of the Israeli math team. First Place !!!!!!! You have brought us great honor. A huge blessing.

  2. These are 7 wonderful out of millions of leftist voters that Netanyahu and his dogs call anarchists/leftists/not Jews/terrorists/not Zionists... instead of accommodating, accepting and uniting, he and his dogs divide and dissolve his primitive mob of leftist protesters (who are the parents, brothers and sisters) of these wonderful seven . It will take many years until this nation is united again if at all.
It's a shame that a handful of savages with primitive bridles and man-hating barbarians (who also hate themselves) run the country.

  3. Well done to the team. But it is a small group of children who succeeded in this way. Most of the children are at a very low level of knowledge. There are countries like Russia where behind a national team there are many at a slightly lower level and behind them another at a slightly lower level. This is how a whole army of outstanding children with ability and knowledge was created. Israel has this group and there is not an entire army behind them who get a chance to develop. As behind outstanding sportsmen in many countries there is sports education for many decades and a whole army of athletes at high levels. This group is only a few meteorites who are not followed by an army of high level students. There are huge gaps between this group and the majority of Israeli children. There is no education for excellence in Israel and no desire to raise children's origins in terms of requirements and knowledge. In Israel, as in third world countries, there is no good level in science. Experiential learning just for pleasure replaced learning for achievements and knowledge.

  4. Wonderful.

But how many of those students will live in the State of Israel in 20 years? I estimate that very few.

  5. Indeed a great honor to the State of Israel and peace to the contestants
Unfortunately, this small group does not indicate the level of knowledge and creativity of the students in Israel
A deep plowing is required among the teachers (not all) and to refresh the ranks with an emphasis on thinking and not knowledge arising from technique alone
