Israeli researchers have developed a coating solution for phone and computer screens that will allow the development of flexible screens

Ahead of the 2016 Nano conference, researchers from Tel Aviv University announced that they have developed transparent, electrically conductive flexible layers for screens, built from nanometer wires of silver and gold, and expected to be cheaper than the existing layers on the market

A group of researchers from Tel Aviv University, led by Prof. Gil Markowitz, head of the university's chemistry school, have developed an invention that may revolutionize the screen market.
These are transparent electrodes based on thin layers of metal nanowires of silver and gold. The unique coating is specially adapted to flexible screens and can be adapted to future technologies, such as transparent screens. The development will be presented for the first time as part of the "Nano-Israel 2016" conference and the associated exhibition, an international event dealing with innovations and business opportunities in the fields of nanotechnology, which will be held between the 22nd and 23rd of February.

The new electrodes are also consumer news. This is the first material for electrodes for screens that is not based on the metal indium, which is scarce in nature and whose price is steadily increasing because of this. Hence, the production cost of the innovative coating is expected to be lower than the existing solutions on the market today. This, in addition to the revolutionary production process, which is extremely convenient and easy, and is done with the help of self-organization of the components in the growth solution of the nanowires.

"I am proud to be behind the development of nano-chemical technology, which has such a wide applied impact," says Prof. Markowitz, "the flexibility and the simple production process of the layers is far-reaching news for the screen industry and for private consumers."

"The development is an excellent example of the importance of nanotechnology and the possibilities inherent in this technology to improve leading technological products in the electronics industry," says Rafi Kuriat, a senior partner at INNI, the Israeli National Nanotechnology Initiative, and industry executives, "even in advanced technologies that are constantly renewed, nanotechnology has an important role, that marches them to the next level, especially for the traditional industries that are thirsty for the integration of advanced technologies to improve existing and future products."
