Henry Taub, one of the biggest supporters of the Technion and honorary chairman of the Cortorion, passed away in the USA, at the age of 83. The president of the Technion, Professor Peretz Lavi, said that the Technion had lost a dear friend, a technological pioneer and a visionary, and expressed his condolences to Marilyn Taub and the family.
Taub, one of the leaders of American Jewry, held many key positions in the Jewish community. Among other things, in the XNUMXs he was the president of the World Joint. He supported the Taub Institute for Alzheimer's Disease Research and the Taub Center for Urban Research. The chairman of the Curatorium, Lawrence Jacqueir and the chairman of the executive committee, Yoram Elster, said that the State of Israel has lost a true friend who understood that its future lies in education, higher education and advanced technology, and supported young researchers a lot.
Success in four hands
The story of Taub, the son of immigrants who settled in the US, is an exciting story of "success with four hands". His father was a worker in a textile factory and "Altea Iya" who sold used items that he transported in a horse-drawn cart. Young Henry studied accounting and began working in this profession. When he discovered that one of his clients was withholding salaries for his employees due to the illness of one of the managers, he decided to establish a company that would handle salary payments. This is how Automatic Payrolls was founded. At the beginning of the company's journey, Taub did not have a car, and he traveled with the salaries to their destination on a city bus.
Today the company is called ADP, and it is one of the largest companies in the world in the field of integrated computing and outsourcing, with 47,000 employees and a turnover of approximately 9 billion dollars.
The Henry and Marilyn Taub Foundation, which the couple established more than forty years ago, supports activities related to education and health. They contributed a lot to the Technion, among other things to the Faculty of Computer Science whose building bears Taub's name, and to the encouragement of young researchers to return to Israel and be admitted to the Technion.
Taub served as president of the Technion's alumni in the USA and as chairman of the Cortorion in 2003-1990, and received an honorary doctorate from the Technion.
