The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Orit Parkash HaCohen, announced today (Monday) the appointment of Prof. Dan Bloomberg to the position of Chairman of the Advisory Committee for the Israel Space Agency in the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology. The appointment was approved by the Ministry of Justice.

Bloomberg is vice president for regional and industrial development at Ben Gurion University of the Negev, holds a doctorate from the University of Arizona in the field of planetary geology, and headed the team at Ben Gurion University in the development of the BGUSAT nanosatellite together with the aerospace industry.

The appointment to the position, which is voluntary, was made in accordance with the government's decision on the matter, which states that the chairman of the Israel Space Agency is required to be a reputable scientist in the field of space. As part of his role, Bloomberg will head the agency's advisory committee.

Prof. Dan Blumberg is vice president for regional and industrial development at Ben Gurion University of the Negev, who holds a doctorate from the University of Arizona in the field of planetary geology. Heads the Laboratory for Remote Sensing and Planetary Simulations that serves as one of NASA's regional laboratories, is a co-investigator in NASA's test flights with radar systems on the Space Shuttle (SRL), and leads many studies in the field. Prof. Bloomberg also led the collaboration between Bin Gurion University and the Aerospace Industry to build BGUSAT, an Israeli nanosatellite that is still moving in space. Serves as a member of the International Academy of Astronautics.
