The University of Haifa opened the 10.10.2021 academic year this coming Sunday, October XNUMX, XNUMX by joining the global struggle and meeting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) while focusing on research and teaching in the fields of environmental and social sustainability. As part of this commitment, the university will open the Center for the Study of the Politics of Inequality, the Haifa Center for Environmental Sustainability, the Incubator for the Study of Religions, and more. "The University of Haifa operates in a unique texture of mountain-city-sea, which makes us a living laboratory for research in the fields of the environment, man and society. The university continues to be committed to taking an active part in the social fabric of Haifa, the north and the entire State of Israel," said Haifa University President Prof. Ron Rubin.

"The advantage and uniqueness of the University of Haifa is the ability to lead research on environmental sustainability and research on social sustainability. Our commitment is to carry out research and teaching that is able to face the great challenges of humanity in the 21st century", added the rector of the university Prof. Gore Elroy.

The 20 school year will begin at the University of Haifa, with classes taking place as much as possible on campus, subject to the green letter - for students and faculty. All classes will be delivered online for the students who do not have a green card. For this purpose, XNUMX new hybrid classes were established, which will be added to the six existing classes.

After a year and a half of fully online education, we have learned many lessons about the advantages and disadvantages of online education. The format of a significant part of the courses open to all students has been upgraded to short videos of 8-10 minutes, use of graphics, animation, etc. The new courses place great emphasis on encouraging active learning, collaborative learning and exploratory learning.

The university even purchased software that improves the intensive studies such as collaborative reading software, software that allows the use of mobile phones as a study tool during classes, features were introduced that allow the creation of podcasts, and more.

In the academic year XNUMX, a number of new courses will be opened, among others, a bachelor's program in philosophy, economics, political science, a master's program in the Department of Communication Disorders with a specialization in new technologies, the first school of its kind in Israel for archeology and maritime cultures was established, Eshkol was upgraded Data science and cyber and more.

This year, the cable car will be inaugurated, which will connect the university to the central station of the Gulf and provide an easy and above all - green - means of transportation for students and faculty members.

One response

  1. The University of Haifa, in my opinion, took good advantage of the corona crisis in teaching in order to 'recalculate a course' against the background of the ongoing decline in the popularity of the institution. I hope that the efforts will bear fruit and that at the same time the local authorities will be able to encourage students to live within the city
