The company Touch Point from the Ariel University Center in Samaria is the winner of the first place in the BizTEC09 entrepreneur competition of the Technion and TheMarker, the final stage of which took place on the last day, June 11. The technology developed by the company makes it possible to upgrade any flat screen - computer, plasma, LCD screen - to a touch screen, at a low cost of a few dollars, with high quality and relatively simple production technology. This development was selected from among 24 projects that reached the final stage of the competition. This is the first year that the competition was opened to other academic institutions apart from the seven universities. The win entitles the entrepreneurs to NIS 50 in cash, and business consulting.

Researchers and research students led by PhD student Leonid Minutin participate in the development of the product. According to him, "a request to register a patent was submitted a long time ago. Our goal now is to raise resources for the project, and to establish a company for the mass production of this development." Vitaly Vishenpolsky, an MBA student at the University Center prepared the business plan for the project that won the competition. The development is accompanied by the research authority of the university center, and the development itself was carried out in the laboratories of the Department of Electrical Engineering, headed by Prof. Shmuel Strankler.

Second place went to the Vizmo group from the Technion, which uses the capabilities of cellular devices to allow customers who call service centers to serve themselves using menus over the phone; In third place is the PAN VR company, from Tel Aviv University, which develops a product that allows displaying XNUMXD holograms on regular screens. The first two winning companies will represent Israel in addition to the financial prizes, the two teams that won the first places will represent Israel in the European entrepreneurship competition NovaTEC, which will be held for the first time in Israel.

BizTEC was founded at the Technion in 2004 and is based on the MIT 100K competition model. During the first years of its existence, the competition was addressed to Technion students only, but since 2006 it has been held in cooperation with the leading universities in Israel, and this year it was opened to students in all academic institutions in Israel.

  1. Ariel University Center
It is indeed a college, only because of political opinions,
The center produces graduates at a very high level no less than a university,
I am in charge of a small hi-tech company, and I employ only outstanding people from the Ariel University Center,
And it should be noted that they are very good, not only excellent people with manners,
    Greetings David

  2. The uses are enormous. If indeed the application technology is very cheap, it can be sold, for example, to the Israeli Orbotech, which is a main supplier of optical inspection systems for use during the production of flat panel displays. Orbotech will be able to sell this patent to its customers who are flat screen manufacturers from Taiwan and China. The introduction of this technology in the production line will allow every flat screen produced from now on to also become a touch screen. The user will have the option to click on the screen and not just on the keyboard. Websites will open following this option the possibility that readers will click directly on the screen when they enter their websites. It is important to understand that today building a touch screen is very expensive and that is why these screens are not common. It is actually a matter of chicken and egg: when there will be touch screens, websites will make sure to be built so that they also respond to a touch screen and not just to a mouse. When there are no touch screens, the websites only respond to the click of the mouse.

  3. A. Ben-Ner:
I don't see why you rule out home use.
In my opinion, there will certainly be people who prefer using such a screen instead of a mouse, if only to save space on the table.
I don't know the prices, but if it is a solution that, together with the screen, will be cheaper and no less effective than a normal touch screen, it may also be placed in places where a touch screen is planned in advance.

  4. It is not clear enough what the applications of the development are?
After all, it does not seem that for the development of the use of home televisions nor home computers since (probably) is not a substitute for a keyboard. The same applies to business and commercial users.
In places where the device is intended for the customers' own use, such as in a bank, for example, the system is planned for this in advance.
    Maybe someone will know. Thanks.

  5. For the tenth time, a college, not a university center.

The term "university center" is a marketing term used by the heads of Ariel College, which has been struggling for years to become a university. Since they did not succeed, and rightly so, they found a miraculous solution and called themselves a "university center". Of course, there is no such animal. In Israel there are either colleges or Universities, according to law. The fact that the heads of Ariel College whistle at everyone and do justice to themselves (and for some reason continue to receive budgets from the state after that) is a disgrace, but they really shouldn't be dragged after them in the media.

    This. Just for historical accuracy.

  6. Interesting, but it's a shame that there is no explanation of the working principle of the product.
