Two 17-year-old Jerusalem girls traveled this week to represent Israel at an international plenary meeting of the youth. In the public discourse around controversial bioethical issues that express the complexity of the relationship between science and society. 17 European countries are partners in the project, including Great Britain, France and Germany.

In each of these countries, local parliaments were held in May of last year that lasted three days, in which the youth deepened their acquaintance with four hot topics from the forefront of biological science that have social, constitutional and ethical implications. The youth were divided into four committees led by a PhD student who specializes in the subject of the committee. During the committee's work, the participants met with experts in the scientific and legislative field and at the end of its activity presented a document that included proposals for a decision on the committee's topic. The parliament ended with a plenary meeting in which all committees presented the resolution proposals they drafted and they were brought to a democratic vote.

The highlight of the event in Israel was bringing the results of the vote to the Knesset, to the Science and Technology Committee, and the highlight abroad is, as mentioned, the meeting of the youth from all over the world at the seat of the Parliament of the European Union, in Brussels. Yuval Cohen and Jordan Avidani from Jerusalem were chosen to travel to this session, because they stood out in their ability to express themselves in the press, in engaging the discussions and in understanding the complexity of the issues. Both are lovers of biology and genetics and therefore were chosen to participate in the project from the beginning.

Two events will be held in Brussels and both were produced by the Science Museum in Jerusalem: the EUSCEA 2WAYS Science Festival will be held at the Brussels Museum of Nature where the activities to make research accessible were presented, and in the European Parliament, under the auspices of the STOA committee, representatives of all the local scientific parliaments met to formulate joint recommendations, recommendations that will be submitted to the members of the European Parliament.
