On the occasion of Israeli Science Day 2015, which will be celebrated on May 12, this week the scientists will hang up their robes, leave the laboratories and lecture halls, and return to the sandbox in the kindergarten. The "Scientists in Kindergartens" project, initiated by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Space and in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, will take place this week with the aim of encouraging scientific thinking, inspiring and exposing children to the fields of science and science professions already at preschool age.

The scientists who will be staying at the gardens will tell the children about the role of the scientist, what is exciting about science in general and their field of research in particular and will try to infect them with a desire to understand life in the world and engage in science from a young age. The scientists will conduct an activity that will bring the children together with science at eye level by experiencing fun experiments.

The scientists will ask questions that will motivate the children to look for answers and solutions by observing, hypothesizing, experimenting, recording and drawing conclusions on diverse topics, such as: living beings, celestial bodies, technology and the man-made world.

"Children are born curious and the world is a puzzle for them. Our children are already curious researchers and all we have to do is preserve and nurture this," explains Professor Nurit Yeremia, the chief scientist of the Ministry of Science and a researcher in the field of psychology. "The first meeting with the scientist paints for children a picture of the future and an occupation to aspire to when they grow up."

"Hop!" channel will broadcast new episodes in the season "Sesame Street - Discovering Curiosity", which was produced in accordance with the contents of the study in science and technology for preschoolers, and following them, the scientific topics presented in the program, such as various aspects of mathematics, technology and science, and more, will be developed in the kindergartens.

  1. How to get in touch I want them to come to my child's kindergarten and I live in a place where the municipality is ultra-Orthodox

  2. It is also advisable to subsidize the cost of a ticket to science museums, and to train guides who will give explanations to the children there.
