The chairman of the MLA and Minister of Education, Shay Piron, will recommend appointing Prof. Hagit Maser-Yeron to the position of deputy chairman of the MLA

As part of his role, the Deputy Chairman of the Council assists the Chairman in formulating the agenda of the Council and its meetings, and conducts the meetings of the Council in the absence of the Chairman.

The Minister of Education and Chairman of the Legislative Council, Shai Piron will recommend to the plenary of the Council for Higher Education to appoint Prof. Hagit Maser-Yeron to the position of Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council. Prof. Messer-Yeron, who is currently serving as the president of the Open University, a photo for the position upon completion of her term as president of the university. Prof. Messer-Yeron will replace Dr. Shimshon Shoshani in the position. Minister of Education and Chairman of the Legislative Council Shai Piron noted that the skills and experience of Prof. Maser-Yeron will greatly contribute to the work of the Legislative Council and its strengthening.

Professor Hagit Messer-Yeron has served since October 2008 as the president of the Open University. In the past, she held a number of senior positions at Tel Aviv University, including Vice President of Research and Development. Between the years 2000-2003 she served as the chief scientist of the Ministry of Science. Also, Prof. Messer-Yeron served on a variety of councils, committees and forums in Israel and around the world, including: Chairman of the National Council for the Advancement of Women in Science and Technology.
