The Minister of Education and Chairman of the National Assembly, Naftali Bennett, announced today the appointment of Prof. Yaffa Zilbrashtz as Chairwoman of the Committee for Budgeting and Planning in the Council for Higher Education. This is the first time since the establishment of the state that a woman will serve in this position

After a complex and long procedure in which the minister met with dozens of candidates and senior officials in the world of academia in Israel, Minister Bennett decided to appoint Prof. Zilberschatz, saying:

"Professor Yaffe Zilbreschatz is the most suitable and worthy candidate for advancing the goals of higher education in Israel, including research development, the enrichment of Israeli academia and international collaborations, as well as the return of academic minds to Israel. Professor Zilbrashtz has all the elements required for success in the position, such as broad familiarity and rich experience with Israeli academia, legal expertise, familiarity with the governmental system and, of course, a suitable personality. This is the first time in the country's history that there is a picture of the head of the Luta, as a step that is part of our policy to place women in leading and leadership positions in the country."

Prof. Yaffe Zilbrashtz is a full professor at the Faculty of Law at Bar Ilan University and has been serving as the Vice President of Bar Ilan University since May 2010. Prof. Zilbrashtz graduated with a BA in Law (LL.B), a Master's degree in International Law Studies (LL.M) from the University of New York and has a doctorate (PhD) from Bar-Ilan University.

Prof. Zilbreschats served on a number of public committees, including the committee to prepare a citizenship law, the Rubinstein committee to examine immigration policy for the State of Israel, the Na'am committee to complete the drafting of a constitution for Israel, the KSHAB committee to promote integration in the service and equality in burden, and more. He also served as a member of the executive board of the Jewish Agency. She has served for many years as a board member of the International Organization of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists and as an academic advisor to the organization, as well as a board member of the Israel Democracy Institute. Prof. Zilbrashtz specializes in international law, constitutional law, human rights and immigration, and her work includes writing and editing several books, book chapters, academic articles and participation in conferences in Israel and abroad. In addition, she served as the editor of the faculty's journal "Legal Studies".
