The District Committee in the South approved the plan for the tourist observatory in Mitzpe Ramon. The cost of the project is NIS 15 million. Funding for the construction of the observatory will come from the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Tourism, the Jewish Agency and KKL-Junk. The works will last about three years.

The observatory will consist of a domed hall, where space films will be shown, and a balcony on which telescopes will be placed for stargazing. In addition, there will be trainings in the field of astronomy. Mitzpe Ramon is known as the most suitable area for stargazing due to the altitude conditions, the number of clear nights, the cleanliness of the air, and the lack of artificial light. One of the most important telescopes in the world belonging to Tel Aviv University is already located in the Ramon Observatory, which is visited by hundreds of astronomers every year. The scientists of the university observatory will give scientific advice to the tourists who arrive.

The head of the local council, Dror Dvash, estimated that the construction of the observatory would result in an impressive increase in the number of travelers in the area, and would also significantly increase the number of overnight stays in hotels and hostels. "I believe that the establishment of the observatory will bring a great boom to tourism in the region," said Devash.
